18 (!) hot dog varieties on the menu at this new location (opened Jun 10, 2025) for Dirty Gangster Dogs, at the other end of the Italian-ice place on Frederick at the corner of St John's. Enough parking in the lot in front and around the side. We got the $8 (i think) Al Capone, a Chicago-ish dog with pepperoni added! Genius! Delicious! It has bright zingy pepperoncini-peppers, mildly hot and slightly sweet. The "mouth-feel" was very lush, a hefty steamed dog loaded with relish, tomato slices, diced onions, and yellow mustard. An excellent fresh flavor combo! Me, speaking as an ex-Chicagoan: These peppers are pretty close but not as brightly hot as the flavor of genuine sport peppers. Alas, no poppy seeds on the bun. It IS the right mustard: regular yellow mustard! I like it! They will customize if you like, with a million toppings on their other dogs :-). A dog comes with chips, and they have sodas including some nice varieties. Good sides, too, like spicy or not chili, and spicy slaw. I got a side of crunchy fresh broccoli slaw with bacon, which i loved. Oh! You can substitute Polock Johnnies for the dog, sometimes they have veggie dogs, and they have a gluten-free bun available. I kinda jostled my takeout, so here's my earlier photo from their Sykesville location because it shows their nice presentation. They have one bench out front. I dont know if Gangster-dog patrons are allowed to use the picnic tables on the far side of...
Read moreSaw that this place opened recently and decided to check it out yesterday for a quick lunch with my girlfriend. Picked up a few OG dogs (toppings a la carte) with different toppings. Really enjoyed the spicy chili topping, and girlfriend liked the polish sausage that she substituted in hers. The buns were nice and soft, and all the toppings were fresh. Service was great and the guys working there were very friendly. Each dog is put in its own spacious cardboard takeout container making it easy to eat even without a table to set them on (had a dog in the car before heading home). Interior was bare bones and there is no indoor seating, but perfect for takeout. I heard there is patio seating in back, but I didn't check on that when...
Read moreAdmittedly it was roughly 30 minutes before closing time, so of course some of the food has been sitting there for a while. All of the sides looked terrible...not fresh! The hot dog itself was average tasting, nothing special. I did not like the bun! I was expecting a regular hot dog bun but it came on a weird piece of bread, that was enclosed on the bottom, to hold a hot dog, but looks like slices of bread on the sides. Interesting idea, but not what I wanted.
If I do decide to give them a try again, it'll be in the afternoon when hopefully their sides are fresh, in gangster dogs...
