Mi Casa is a Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurant in Ellicott City that doesn't get a whole bunch of attention. The location certainly isn't prime and it definitely doesn't catch one's eye while driving by. I stopped by here with a large group after a football game and while it was a pleasant experience, there's certainly room for improvement. Upon entering the restaurant, you'll notice that it's got a pleasant atmosphere but it isn't anything special or for that matter, anything that will keep you coming back. Like many other restaurants, you get free chips and salsa and the salsa is fantastic and is served in a little tortilla bowl-- a nice touch. The food is good but you can do better in this area. However, the entree I ordered (Chicken Cancun) was simply fantastic and the gravy was extremely decadent and delicious. Still, the appetizers were just alright and the portions were a bit small given the high prices. Service was perfectly acceptable as well. Still, if you're looking for a superbly fun and welcoming atmosphere paired with great food, look elsewhere. If you're in the area and need some quick Tex-mex cuisine, then stop in at Mi Casa.

We called in a carry out order for the Redwood Enchilada and a slice of Tres Leches cake. Since it was a carry out order I can't really speak to service, but everyone we ran into was polite! The Redwood Enchilada was not the rolled enchilada I'm used to but like, a layer of tortilla, filling, and then another layer of tortilla all covered in enchilada sauce. It wasn't really clear what I was ordering when I got it. It was REALLY good though! It was seasoned well and the flavors were great. It came with rice and two kinds of beans. The rice was like, wild rice? It was good mixed with the beans. I wish it had come with like a little side of guac, pico de Gallo, and sour cream like I'm used to from other places just to brighten it up a little! The cake was delicious, moist, not too sweet, and the portion was decent. I really enjoyed everything I ate and will definitely go back to try more stuff!

I have traveled this country and ate at many, many Mexican restaurants and this is the worst I’ve had to date! The food is poor, steak so tuff I couldn’t eat it. The service was horrible, never got refills. I asked for my ‘jerky’ tacos to be removed from my bill and she told me ‘no, you ordered it’. My daughter ordered the Combo 2, couldn’t even tell which was an enchilada and which was a burrito. Very poorly seasoned food. And the rice, find a new season or lay off the Rice A Roni boxes! Also, I ALWAYS tip 20% because it’s not the waitress’s fault the food sucks but, you can’t even refill my cup or remove food I can’t even eat, you get no tip from me!!! Not sure how their rating was high, I guess family and friends

If I could give 0 stars I would only for the Owner. Didn't even have the chance to have the food.

Just tried ordering takeout for me and my family. Called earlier to see if they are usually busy on valentines day and to see how early I need to put in the order when we're ready to eat. Guy on the phone was rude and annoyed with my questions. Figured he was having a bad day. I Let it go. Told him we'd call back to put in the order.

I called back later to and asked how long the wait was for pick up. He asked if it was the same guy from earlier and I said yes. He said rudely again, "Usually its 20 mins but now its 45 to an hour." I said ok cool lets do it. Started ordering from a list I wrote down from the menu. Apparently I tried ordering a meat that doesn't come with an item and he got even MORE annoyed with me. I tried fixing it by asking if he had chicken and he gave a rude answer. Asked him to be a little nicer to me so we can continue. He gave a rude response. Told him I was taking our order somewhere else and he didn't care.

After we ordered from somewhere else, I called back to see if I could talk to the manager. Same guy picked up. Told me HE WAS THE MANAGER AND THE PROPRIETOR. I said wow... ok. Knowing I wasn't going to get anywhere with him. He was not what I expected in an owner.

Sorry my trying to prep for my family by asking how long the takeout wait was inconvenient to you and your establishment.

Here are some Customer Service Tips: -Be Nice -Maybe your future customer DOES NOT KNOW YOUR MENU or have it in front of them at all times. -Suggest what meats you do have for certain items. -Don't be rude

Edit: Per the owners response of me being a bully. I was only asking questions about when I should order the food and trying to plan ahead! If you were only nice on the phone, none of this would have EVER happened. You're right, maybe my cursing hurt your feelings but I asked if you could be nice so we could continue and you decided to still be rude only after I started using some cursing. If only your patrons could hear you how you treat complete strangers, maybe they'd rethink of continuing going there. I tried giving you my money by planning ahead for you and my family's sake. I only called the last time to speak to someone who KNOWS how to run a restaurant and more professional than you and warn them how much you need help talking on the phone. Since you apparently do NOT care about YOUR business keep doing what you're doing. I never write bad reviews but you sir...

We arrived at 7pm on a Friday, we walk in 3 workers state & no one greeted us. We were told by customers that they were all waiting. The host along with a server & bartender walked past 3-4 times, and then the host finally acknowledged us and let us know that 2 families were in front of us. We say okay only good thing is we waited 10 mins or so then we were seated. Our server who was the bartender wasn’t knowledgeable about the menu. I asked her if there were any drink specials she says yes Tequila & pineapple. I order the drink. I ask for food recommendations she says everything is good. I ask what’s spicy she said everything is spicy. I ordered the red hot peppers (just some store jalapeño poppers w cream cheese) and the Chili Relleno Con Pollo. My entree was sitting in their window for a while bcus the plate was scorching hot when it came out. The top layers of my rice and beans were dry and my pepper was no longer crispy bcus the sauce dried into the “beer battered coating” and continued to dry while I waited for our server/bartender for 10 mins after my food was dropped off. I sent it back and was not interested in anything else. The other order at my table had tacos, tasted regular. While we were waiting and eating we noticed every other family that entered after us received a greeting. Employees were yelling from across the restaurant to try and greet customers. The table next to us came in as we asked for our check and asked if they had specials the bartender told them no. Our server/bartender brings us the check and my drink is $8. After returning 10 mins after dropping the check off i Asked about the special and she wasn’t able to explain why she said the drink was on special.

Overall a terrible experience and i won’t be back. For AUTHENTIC Mexican try Pollo Feliz, 5 mins down rt. 40, AMAZING service, no pre-made margaritas, and $2...

My girlfriend and I frequent Mi Casa and it's about time we leave a review.

Its our favorite Mexican food in the area, by far, and we have never been served a bad meal. Our absolute favorite item on the menu, and the house staple, is the Jack Daniels Honey Whiskey marinated fajitas. It packs a sweet, delicious flavor and a unique tenderness whether you opt for the shrimp, chicken, or steak (or the combo!). It pairs awesome with the house margarita, salt on the rim of course.

We almost always go with the salsa con queso with jalepenos as well. This is a classic and pairs awesome with the complimentary chips and salsa to start the meal. Make sure to ask for the owner's homemade habanero sauce when you order appetizers. It packs a punch, but the flavor is great and it can add some heat to your meal if you're a spice person.

We have tried the chimichanga, the enchiladas, and the tacos too. These were also all great and packed with flavor. Don't think that because of the fajitas, this joint is a one pony show. They nail the basics and the house specials are truly specials.

And to round out my review, I have to add that the owner and wait staff are all friendly and the service is prompt, but not intrusive to your dining experience at all. The restaurant is welcoming, clean, and the wall art adds to the experience. In summary, Mi Casa is our favorite spot to get a casual meal, celebrate a special occasion, and...
