Whatever happened to the way Hazel’s used to be? My wife and I came in around noon, found a table and seated ourselves like the sign stated. We were greeted and asked for our drink orders. It was fairly busy but it seemed like the rush was on its way out because after about 5 minutes it cleared out. Then another 5 minutes went by, as we contemplated leaving, our drinks finally made it to us.
We put our orders in, mine was a country fried steak with sunny side up eggs. When I received the plate, it looked as if the cook was just slopping the food around. The steak was splatted on top of the eggs, busting the yolks open, so it was extremely runny and messy. If there wasn’t enough room on the plate for the eggs, steak, or hash browns then a 2nd plate should have been used. I didn’t have time to send the food back so I ate it anyways, unhappily at best.
As we ate, the guy who must be tasked to fill coffee and clean the tables came by literally every 2 minutes. He interrupted me eating 3 times to ask about filling my full coffee mug, in about a 5 minute time span. He was also extremely loud, not sure if he was hard of hearing but I could literally only hear him at times. It was not a pleasant experience while he was on the floor.
Finally, and this is enough for us to never return to this establishment again, was how we were given the check. The older, shorter, grey haired lady who from what I gathered either owned or managed the restaurant, decided a new 4 top table that was next to us was worth her attention more than we were. The lady literally threw the check on our table, with no words or offer of a box or anything, and turned right around to the new table putting on the nicest face. That was the most disrespectful display of customer service I’ve ever been dealt, and even more disgusting coming from someone who should be offering the best service possible. I normally tip very well, but this type of behavior did not warrant one.
I used to frequent Hazel’s with my late mother quite often, so this was such a sad site to see. I almost took the time to talk to the gentleman sitting at the counter who claimed to be the owners father or husband, to see what he thought of how my wife and I had been treated. But instead I’ll let this review speak for itself, and there is a great chance that we will never be coming back to Hazel’s Family Restaurant ever again. Because if that is how they want to treat us, we don’t want to...
Read moreDecided to try this off the beaten path mom and pop style diner while in town. Unfortnately I can only give one star. The only good thing about this place is the size of the portion you get for your money. It was a massive amount of food. Other than that this place is a no for future visits. We decided on what we wanted to eat (We took food to go) After we got to where we were stopping to eat dinner we realized we had no spoons for our soup (clam chowder....which was the only thing that taste decent...husband said it almost taste like Progresso chowder from a can) but I was always taught to be prepared on trips and had a pack of plastic utensils in the glove compartment. So we moved onto our main meal and found that neither one of us recieved the green beans we ordered. A little disappointed but its not the end of the world. I also ordered a side of coleslaw, one bite and I almost threw up. It had a chemical taste to it. My husband (who will eat almost anything) took a bite and threw the rest of the container away. Now really disppointed in lack of quality and attention to detail we try our potatoes. Yep you guessed it. Horrible and bland instant potatoes (Hubby called it cardboard paste and he wasnt far off) and what they called gravy can only be described as tasteless brown goop. The rest of our dinner was completely seasonless. Not a lick of salt or anything else on it. Hubby ordered the shrimp and it was previously frozen/out of a box kind of shrimp that was super greasy. Reading over the reviews it looks like this place might be a good breakfast spot but we will not be returning to find out. Not happy at all with this...
