Mama Bird Southern Kitchen: A Taste of the South in the Heart of Las Vegas
Nestled in the picturesque enclave of Southern Highlands, Mama Bird Southern Kitchen invites diners on a delightful culinary journey deep into the heart of Southern cuisine. Upon entering, you are greeted by an atmosphere that beautifully marries rustic charm with contemporary aesthetics. The warm wooden accents, vintage photographs, and cozy seating arrangement create a welcoming ambiance, perfect for those yearning for a taste of Southern home cooking right in the bustling atmosphere of Las Vegas.
During my recent visit for lunch, I had the pleasure of trying out fried pickles for starters and they were crunchy and tangy I imagine them to be, towards my mains the Cornmeal Fried Shrimp Po' Boy, a dish that impeccably encapsulates the rich, soulful flavors characteristic of Southern cooking. The shrimp were expertly coated in a crisp, golden cornmeal batter that provided a satisfying crunch while remaining tender and juicy. Nestled within a fluffy, hearty potato roll, the shrimp were joined by fresh, vibrant slices of ripe tomato, crisp romaine lettuce, and tangy dill pickles, each ingredient thoughtfully selected to complement the others. The dish's pièce de résistance was the luxurious comeback sauce—a creamy, zesty blend of spices that added a delightful kick to every mouthful, harmonizing beautifully with the other flavors.
Accompanying my Po' Boy was a generous serving of North n' South fries, aptly named for their unique twist. Each fry was perfectly seasoned, boasting a golden exterior with a soft, fluffy interior that made it impossible to resist. Together, the meal was a masterful balance of textures and flavors—a true tribute to Southern culinary tradition that will surely excite your taste buds.
Mama Bird Southern Kitchen is not merely a restaurant; it is an immersive experience that transports diners into the heart of Southern hospitality. Food: We took everything to go but while we waiting, I saw a few dishes come out.. Overall — Presentation looks great, portion size is stellar. Taste, needs more flavor.
Mac and cheese chicken tender waffle sandwich: Waffle was soft by the time we got home, could be due to travel time. Mac and cheese noodles itself was cooked great..could use a little more seasoning
Wings: We asked if they were full wings or winglets, and we were told they were full wings. They are not. Lol..maybe they didn’t understand the question?
Chicken Thighs: Crispy, juicy, best thing we ordered.
Spicy Green Beans: Batter was thick. There was a nice spice to them. Not terrible, but won’t get it again.
Catfish Po Boy: Just stop. Catfish was not catfishing lol. Two small fillets, there was some flavor on the breading but none on the fish.
Service: Hard pass. I should’ve known as soon as we walked in. The guy you see in the picture is who helped us majority of the time. We walk in, waited a minute or so, and let them know we were taking our food to go. The guy hands me one menu for the four of us. I start to walk away and asked for another menu. He hands me one more. If I’m being honest, this already annoyed me. Lol.
We said they’re looking at the menu, then waited awkwardly long enough for said waiter to ask if we were ready to order. He told us he can take our order by the front. We headed up there and ordered. At this point, I had enough interaction to know I’m never coming back. And I’m not tipping this dude.
We pay and head to Smith’s to grab a few things while food was cooking. By the time we go back to the restaurant, no one said anything to us when we walked in, we sat down again and waited. When our food was ready, clearly the guy was upset he didn’t get a tip, so he just places the bag on the table where we were and walks away.
Environment: The restaurant decor is super cute! The vibe is right in here. Very farmhouse, very picture worthy. Weonly came here because my Godsons said they wanted to try this one since they tried the one off FtApache.
NTT [[Next Time Try]]: No thanks. Though, this location is minutes from my house, we won’t be back here again. Going to give this chain another shot at the Ft Apache location.
Thank me later ;) Smile, eat, hydrate, and make good choices! Hope to see you...
Read moreWow!!! Those of you who follow me know that a five star rating from me is rare. I do not award five stars lightly. There is a delicate balance, a symphony of team work of professionalism and fun. I definitely found it here. First let me say that my roots are deep in the south. I grew up on the food that is so professionally and deliciously provided here. We call that food with heart. The dinning area is well lit and comfortable. Today I had the great pleasure of meeting RJ, my server. He was kind and professional. Instead of the generic routine you most often get from other establishments, he treated me like a person that was a friend of the family. He was informative and always had a pleasant and welcoming smile. I immediately felt at ease with him being in a new restaurant I had not tried yet. His smile and personality put me at ease immediately, assuring me that I had made the right choice in Mama Bird. I do not throw around the word professional, but he was definitely professional wrapped in a very pleasant attitude and attention to detail that a lot of the other employees in Las Vegas restaurants lack. RJ, thank you for helping me relax and enjoy a new experience. The food, WOW. I come from a long line of southerners. You're not going to fool me with imitation. I had the fried chicken with greens. Grandma came to mind as I ate. Seriously, fried chicken isn't something you half do. This chicken was amazing! And boneless. I have reviewed and tasted a lot of chicken, but nothing had ever came close to this. The greens were perfect. Whole leaf and not over done with just the right amount of seasoning. Price was spot on. The whole experience was fantastic. From the moment you walk in the door to the time you leave you are treated like family, something that is very important and often forgotten when you brand your establishment as a Southern restaurant. Thank you to the owners and staff and especially RJ for making this a rare but most enjoyable dining experience. I will definitely be back and can not wait to tell everyone I know about my...
