After seeing this restaurant on several social media sites we decided to give it a try for brunch on Sunday, we (party of two) arrived at 1:15 pm. The restaurant is beautiful and is very tastefully decorated with a modern style. The pastry shop gives a great aroma and a sneak peek of some menu items. The coffee was a welcome treat we tried the Pistachio and Vanilla Lattes and they were delicious the smell and taste were on point. This unfortunately was where the experience took a downward slope. As we walked up to the host desk the host took a phone call and proceeded to have a conversation with the caller, after a few minutes he hung up to ask how many in our party. Now at this time the restaurant had 8 guests in it and he took a few moments staring at the restaurant to figure out where we were going to sit. After we were seated the host returned with the menus and very awkwardly attempted to explain the day was slow.
The menu was tastefully laid out and not overwhelming. The waiter told us of the special (short-rib Benedict), 15 minutes later the waiter came back to take our order of the special and the polenta egg mushroom with a side of potatoes. We got our food 45 minutes later.
Food: The Short Rib Benedict: was very flavorful and had a great level of mild spic, creamy and delicious hollandaise sauce, the eggs were overcooked and so the yolks did not run for that added creamy texture. The short rib was well cooked and seasoned, the tenderness was on point and could easily be cut with a fork. The sourdough bread it was set on had a great texture and the tangy flavor of the bread could still be found. The flavor profile gave a southwestern flavor with rich flavor and textures combined. A great special for the menu.
The Polenta Eggs and Mushroom: the earthy aroma from the mushrooms made the anticipation for the taste of this dish to be at the forefront. The polenta was creamy and tender but lacked flavor to elevate the dish, the mushrooms were cooked to the right tenderness but didn’t have any additional flavors and was a small amount to the amount of the polenta. The eggs were sunny side up and were also overcooked the yolk was solid yet still soft. This dish fell short of something to be desired for again. Adding garlic and a little spice to the polenta would make a lovely addition. Possibly using three types of mushrooms to give multiple layers of flavors would benefit the dish. Caramelized onions or mixed in fresh scallions to get texture and added flavor would be a possible addition. It was a bit disappointing as the flavor profile was of just three ingredients and did not show much imagination.
Potato Side: the potatoes were lightly fried and browned and had a subtle flavor. The potatoes were very undercooked and still hard and crunchy. While this was just a side, the lack of flavor was disappointing.
The restaurant has a ton of potential and is definitely beautiful and clean. Will definitely revisit for the pastry shop. We want to come back for a dinner service on a Friday or Saturday evening to give it a try. The staff members were friendly but awkward in how they interacted and talked. The uniforms of all black were not very professional as they were dirty and very wrinkled which detracted from the atmosphere and appearance of the restaurant. With being there over two hours the server checked on us three times.
Overall it was disappointing that it wasn’t a unique experience and something that we couldn’t wait to come back. With the location being close to our home it was a hope to have a great restaurant close by to enjoy. As stated we are going to try again soon and try a...
Read moreMy friends and I had a dinner reservation for 6 of us at 6:30pm. We all arrived on time and were told it would be a few minutes before we could get sat. 10 minutes goes by, 20 minutes goes by and still nothing. We ask how much longer and they say another 10 minutes. Each time we asked the hostess about our table, not one apology. At this point we have been waiting 30 minutes just to be sat for our reservation. Please keep in mind while you wait for your table, you're waiting in a goddam pastry shop with one sofa. At 7pm a bottle of champagne was brought to us as a "sorry for the wait" gesture, however half of us do not even drink. We then get sat at our table and ordered drinks. My coke was flat, so I sent it back to get another and let them know it was flat, and the waiter forgot to bring it. We had to ask for the coke twice and finally got it 20 minutes later. Once we ordered our food, our garlic cheese bread appetizer was completely burnt and hard. So gross. After waiting for I would say well over 45 minutes for our food, the entrees finally came. My pasta BARELY had any pasta in it. For a $32 dollar dish, you'd think you'd at least get a full plate of pasta. I finished my meal before everyone else and I usually can NEVER finish a pasta dish. My meal didn't even have the price on the menu for goodness sakes. Everything else had a price (see picture) proceeded to ask the waiter how much my pasta plate was, and he seemed puzzled on why it didn't have a price on the menu. He finally told me between $26-28 dollars. Then 5 minutes later he comes back and states the pasta dish is actually $32 dollars. How do you forget to put the price next to a pasta dish? Also, we never had a busser or server refill our drinks. Not to mention, if you order a steak from this place, it better not be "well done" because they tell you on the bottom of their menu to order chicken instead. See my attached picture. My friend asked for a side of the sweet peppers that comes with another dish just as a side to snack on with his meal, and it was never brought, but what WAS brought was a LARGE side of roasted red peppers that we all were in shock over (picture below). Who orders a plate of 10 roasted red peppers to eat? The manager was so oblivious to anything. We were hardly checked on by the waiter, at one point he asked us how we were with an empty table. Waiting on our food. I guess we're ok? Just waiting on our food. We aren't people who expect free things, but this experience was beyond awful. Another friend ordered the chicken marsala and she couldn't even eat it, it was nasty. The manager would come to the table and then run away before we could even get a word out. Never asked how we were doing, my friend was clearly not eating, so I had to say something to him. Just not aware of anything at all. We were made to feel like we were the burdens dining at this restaurant. You would think they would at least comp some of the check or bring out desserts as a gesture due to the horrible service and nothing. When the waiter brought back our 3 split checks, he reached over my face to give my husband all 3 of the bills. The experience was so awful, we will not be going back. I'd highly recommend to stay away...
Read moreChef Marc has hit a home run with his restaurant. He has elevated the southwest side of town with a dining experience not to be missed. My wife and I egerly awaited for Chef Marc to open this establishment and he did not disappoint. The restaurant is coupled with what is possibly the best pastry, gelato, bread annex in all of Las Vegas. The restaurant: The atmosphere is “Quiet elegance” and the effort in design for a modern yet retro Italian fine dining vibe is evident. I love the black & white slide show on the big monitor, very innovated! The decor is comfy and the high back booths provide an intimate and secluded dining for those sitting there. the bar is quite expansive and the cocktails are innovated of high quality. The food: Obviousley Chef has put his all into the creations that are served, (we were there for Sunday brunch.) I had the “Giambotta:” Spicy Italian sausage, Escarole, potatoes, mozzarella, hot cherry peppers, scrambled eggs. The quantity was more than I could eat. The cherry peppers were spicy so be forewarned but they paired well with the other ingredients. It was an interesting dish that had many flavor profiles that just worked well. Delicious! My wife had the Polenta egg & mushroom. Creamy and well prepared. The “Mouth-feel” that dish had a buttery smooth texture and was a welcome surprise. The Bakery: It is attached to the main dining room but has different hours. It is open at 7 AM and you need to be early because the items are selling fast! We talked for a while to Pastry Chef, Roman who was classically trained in Naples, Italy and what this young man has done in his craft is nothing short of “Divine!” All the pastry items are hand made fresh on the spot and trying to describe the freshness and absolute delicious flavor profile Chef Roman has created would be hard as they should be tasted to understand the quality of his craft. *They do have fresh bread as well and we opted to buy the “Olive loaf.” It was the best. Chef Marc and his team deserve a big kudos for bringing such an elevated dining experience to our neighborhood. Chef Marc came out to talk to the diners and was very engaging and his passion is over the top for what he does. Now please understand that this review seems to be “gushing” about everything in the restaurant and I do write a lot of critical reviews of the restaurants of Las Vegas and Sgrizzi, (“See-creeg-ZI) deserves all of this praise. We will be back for dinner and Chef Marc in an understated way explained how the menu “Comes alive” at dinner. We can’t wait. The old adage of “You get what you pay for,” could not be more true here. Outstanding restaurant, gourmet food and a pastry shop that rivals the best in Italy.
