Had dinner with a friend and his buddies here the other day. A little ways away from the strip, which is always appreciated when coming here for work.
We waited about 15mins since it was a busy night, but totally worth it. Once inside, the ambiance was great for what it was. The main feature was this huge blossom tree in the middle of the room which towered over the restaurant. It was gorgeous, and the only thing I took pictures of.
We all ordered the AYCE, option A, and it was the best sushi I've had in a long time, especially at that price range. We ate a lot. I would say we ordered no less than 50 dishes.
Our friend ordered the first dozen dishes while we all were chatting and not really looking at the menu. The selection was massive. We started with some nigiri, salmon & yellowtail and eel. Calamari was not in the normal rings you'd expect, they are large and done up in a light and airy tempura batter. They had yellowtail collar which was the first time I've ever had it, and it was heavenly. The toro melted in your mouth. The wasabi octopus was new for me and had a great texture and just enough kick. Everything was fresh and came out quickly enough. We did have to track bussers down a few times to clear out table. That's the only negative comment I have, is there was 5 of us, at a booth meant for 4. With 5 people who love to eat, that booth table filled up quickly and there wasn't much room for anything. I drew the short straw and was on the end in the walking path which was a bit annoying.
Although not something I am about, this place also offered some dishes you wouldn't necessarily see at a sushi place, such as bulgogi and chashu. The chashu was good, I didn't have the bulgogi though.
We ended the meal with some mochi and that Korean street French toast which was a great breakfast made desert.
Honestly there was so much food that I forget a lot of what we ate, but let me assure you, we ATE. We stayed almost 2 hours, and the value is something that beats out any other Vegas sushi spot Ive been to so far....
Read moreRecently moved to Las Vegas and this was my family’s first time here at Top. We came in late on Saturday night and it was still super busy. We were quoted a 45 minute wait but were seated around the 30 minute mark. They had a decent sized waiting area but not nearly enough to house the amount of foot traffic they get.
I did not catch our servers name but he was really friendly and patient with us. He was able to explain the menu well and answer any questions that we had. If he wasn’t around, there were plenty of food runners that were willing to help or help flag down our server for us. For the most part, our drinks were kept full and we were checked in on regularly. We chose option A which is the most expensive option, but we felt was worth it for what you would get.
The food itself was really good. The fish to rice ratio was exactly what I would always want anytime I have sushi. The only thing my 5 year old didn’t care for was the fried rice which is one of his safe foods, but he was still able to enjoy other items. The only complaint I had was with one of the rolls that had cream cheese in it, just had way too much of it. It felt like rice wrapped in cream cheese and it just wasn’t appetizing. Our server was understanding about it and took it away.
The overall atmosphere of the restaurant is actually really beautiful. Ignoring the craziness of the crowds, they had a fake cherry blossom tree in the restaurant that my son was just so in awe of. The mural that was behind the sushi chefs was just as beautiful.
I absolutely will be returning whenever I need my sushi fix. One more thing worth noting is that it’s one of the best deals for families of small children. My 5 year old does not eat that much. At most, he will eat a few scoops of fried rice and a side of chicken. So the fact that Top understands that young kids really don’t eat $15 worth of food like other places charge is amazing. As a parent, that makes it so much more worth going to.
That being said: Food 9.5/10 Service 9.5/10 Ambiance 10/10 Cleanliness...
Read moreReview update 9/2/25: the service has really gone downhill. For almost $40pp, service really needs to be improved bc as soon as another sushi joint starts doing what they do with the rice to fish ratio, people are going to switch patronage, namely me.
We visited last night and there were empty tables but we were asked to wait 15 minutes. When I asked about the empty tables, which were clearly cleaned except for one that I couldn't see, the hostess commented snarkily that they needed to be clean. With that attitude, honey, hope you like being a hostess for a while. We were eventually seated at one of the tables I commented with the hostess.
After we placed our first round, we were informed they were sold out of the sea urchin and were told we could substitute with another limited item. So we substituted with salmon belly nigri. Our poor server came back to inform us salmon belly doesn't qualify for the substitution. So just be aware that management doesn't care about keeping customers happy. Hopefully we find another replacement soon as I'm starting to feel disheartened about giving them my money. End Update
We've always loved Top Sushi on Sunset. When we saw they are opening one a little bit closer to us, we were so excited! This new location did not disappoint! The food is just as fresh and delicious. The decor is absolutely stunning. If you look at the wallpaper by itself, it's quite questionable, but put together, the decor works! Plenty of parking out front.
The service was good. It is not as good as it used to be at the original location but not bad. We were left alone for quite a while after being seated. It was even a longer wait before our orders were taken. But once the orders were placed, they came out...
