I firstly want to say that James Coffee is amazing - they have great coffee and the atmosphere is awesome; plus they are dog friendly which makes it super convenient. HOWEVER; the first time my gf and I had this place, the quiche was mouthwatering, flaky, gooey, cheesy, delicious, and it brought us back JUST for that amazing experience. It occupied rent in our minds for months. We went back this weekend and the quiche has changed. Apparently there is a new resident chef who is trying out his quiche or something. James Coffee, please bring back that old quiche or let me know where I can find it. This new one was weird, cold in the middle, spongey, and we had a hard time finishing it. I am longing for the old quiche. Burning. I am about to embark on an odyssey that I may never come back from; that is, finding a quiche as pristine as the old James Coffee quiche. The piercing words from the staff that, "the old quiche is not coming back" may haunt me until I can satisfy my yearning for one more bite of perfection, oh that mystical quiche. It's not just me, when you google good quiche near me, James Coffee pops up. There is sorrow in my heart for the disappointment they will find when they are met with sweet potato, I mean seriously, sweet potato? To say the least, you can quiche our butts goodbye until the old quiche comes back....
Read moreMy wife and I woke up wanting to try something new today, so we went to grab some breakfast at James Coffee.
There's indoor and outdoor seating, and the restaurant had plenty of seating for both. The inside was very minimal with a nice clean esthetic. They also offer free wifi, which makes for a great place to get some work done. The pastries and other food items are displayed behind a glass and labeled making got easy ordering.
We ordered a Ham and Cheese Bear Claw and James Breakfast bagel. The Ham and Cheese Bear Claw was very simple, honestly just ham and cheese, nothing special but enough to satisfy you. The James Breakfast Bagel had a Chipotle mayo on it, which caught my attention. soni ordered it on an Everything Bagel. The bagel was very small for $14.. and when I took my first bite.. the Chipotle mayo was very spicy. There were chili flakes and other spices added to it that were way too overpowering that i couldn't take the Chipotle. All the spice is absolutely not needed. Chipotle is a darn good flavor, and if done right, it could make for a great Chipotle mayo. I took too bites before I couldn't stand the heat around my mouth, very disappointing for what we paid.
Overall, James Coffee is a very cute spot but not worth the money to me. I dont think...
Read moreLong time customer of James Coffee here. Quality of the coffee is great and because of this I have continued to support James Coffee after moving out of San Diego. However, its become clear to me that James does not value it's customers. I recently purchased a 5-lb bag of beans on their website, something I have done in the past, and because I reached out to them to add an additional bag of beans to the order, they decided to refund my order without even a call to explain, as I am not a retailer. I discussed this matter with Jacob in Escondido and he was rude and unhelpful, explaining that it was a glitch in their system and that nothing but a refund is owed to a long time customer who simply purchased what was listed on the website. If you offer a deal on your website stand by it, if there is a glitch fix it, and if an order goes through fulfill it. Guess it's time to find a local roaster that can both make good coffee and stand by their offerings.
