China Garden — Restaurant in Essex Junction

What a waste of money. I moved to this area from Ma 3yrs ago and the Chinese Food Restaurants menus, limited choices, way foods prepared, is not even close to China Town and threw out the state. I rarely get Chinese food here. I checked out C.F. Restaurants on Google and came across China Kitchen with a 4.6. so I figured I'd try it. I was taken back after asking about how they made and what they said! What Chinese restaurant doesn't use beansprouts at all?! I ordered Fried "Jumbo" Shrimp that was a 1 n 1/2inch piece of shrimp split down the middle and fried in a flat overcooked,dryed out crust that was a good 7" by 4". Never saw Fried Shrimp cooked like this, I couldn't even eat them. They were awful! Not gonna waste more time about my other choices ordered. I've been there half a dozen times now and have not ever been disappointed with the food. If you want consistent and quality food with LOTS of leftovers this is the place. My partner and I share one entree and one side and it lasts 4 meals (and we like to EAT).

Only complaint would have to be holiday season service. We ordered this past Christmas and ended up waiting double the quoted time (quoted 40-45 mins, waited over 1.5 hours) for the food. They were absolutely slammed with customers and didn't seem to be halting new orders in order to catch up which isn't good service (but is good for $$). Good food, but they're still in covid mode with the whole airlock thing at the door. There's a crack where you stick your card in to pay and then this double door thing where they slide the bag of food into and then you open your side. It's pretty ridiculous. Plus communication is non-existent. I gotta talk through the tiny card crack so they can hear me, and I gotta put my ear to it to hear them. It's especially annoying to pick up food when the weather is garbage. I guess they like not having to clean the restaurant, but there's so many other options, and it's a big enough annoyance that I just go elsewhere now. Maybe I'd come back if they ditched...
