THE DONUT KING
While on vacation in Georgia…doing our camping thing we heard a Medieval tale…of the one they call the Donut King.
This was not a Donut Earl or Duke or Viscount of whom the people sing no these tales told of donuts made in Alabama…by a King.
They spoke of donuts so delectable …so mouthwatering and light… that people travel from the 4 corners of the world…just to have a bit.
So we rose early one morning…as curious adventurers are wont to do and we traveled back in time (1 hour) to Alabama to see if these tales were true.
We saw the sign and immediately…then we stopped and parked the car. The Donut King’s castle was old and weathered…as sometimes castles are.
But once inside the aroma engulfed us and we thought of all the donut places we have roamed… here in Eufaula, Alabama…our donut lust has found a home.
When the fair maiden behind the counter found out it was our first time her smile met our gaze then she handed us a free sample…still warm and dripping with glaze.
Deborah and I looked at each other and together we both knew it…. This was the best donut we ever tasted… only I forgot to chew it.
We began ordering donuts quickly…now in Medieval donut heaven and when we finally looked inside the box…we ended up with seven.
We took them to the parking lot and as we ate them we started to sing…. realizing here in Alabama…we were in the presence...
Read moreI'm an Atlanta to PCB traveler: 1st...Best donuts in the galaxy 2nd... They changed the donut holes. They are not good. Old way of making them was worth the money. 3rd... Of the 5 times I have traveled to PCB in the last 2 years, I was able to get donuts twice (that's 10 trips by Donut King). I went during normal business hours every time. They were either sold out, renovating, or closed. This past Sunday we made it to Eufala by noon and no donuts!
Bottom line... I love their donuts. I would buy their a day old donuts. I would buy their hotdogs and a drink on my way through just to support their business, but they wont stay open once they are out of donuts and you dont know when that is going to happen. I cant plan on it.
Therefore, though I love their product, and since I am disappointed the majority of the time I arrive, I will stop at Krispy Kreme in Columbus. It is a close 2nd, they have decent coffee, and most importantly they are operate with consistency.
I have given up. Best...
Read moreHave simply driven through Eufaula many many times but never stopped. This time we did at the Donut King, per recommendation of a friend. SO glad we did. Best donuts ever, very reasonably priced, and the folks who work there are patient and kind. We were asked if this was our first visit to Donut King, which it was, and they gave us both a free donut hole. We were hooked right there. The donuts are fluffy, soft and oh so fresh. Just go and try them. You won’t be disappointed. P.S. The attached photo shows a cinnamon twist and one donut hole. The donut holes are almost the size of a regular donut. These are both highly recommended.
UPDATE: April 18, 2021. Just as good, maybe even better than our last visit back in late August/early September 2020. Not only are the donuts/baked items absolutely the best, it’s also the welcoming staff that makes this a great place. Make sure to stop here. You will...
