Busy as all get out, but the cashiers were on point. Seating is adequate for normal business, but it was a little crowded for opening week. The kitchen looks very clean and well kept, and shiny stainless everywhere. There were a ton of people on the hot line and we got our food before we even had a chance to get our drinks. Two drink fountains as well as tea and lemonade made quick work of getting a tasty beverage. The condiment area is unique in that it is a medium sized Craftsman tool box. Inside the drawers you will find drink lids, straws, ketchup, mustard, sauces, etc. It was neat, but I am not sure how well kept you will be able to keep it. Seating is comfortable and they have a few picnic tables outside as well. The decor celebrates our countries military history and the men and women who serve. Nice collection of photographs, uniform patches, etc. There is some of the corrugated tin wanes coating on the walls, but not over done like some places I have seen. There are a few televisions spread around the room, but this is not a sports bar so it is not overwhelming. The really neat thing is every day at 12:00 noon, everyone stops, stands and sing the national anthem. It is a nice touch to honor our country. Well done! The food was well proportioned, and the temperature was good. I had the pulled chicken sandwich with a side of mac and cheese. The chicken was well smoked, but not dry. It had a great flavor. There are six sauces sitting at each table with a variety of bases and flavors from a honey with heat to a mustard based sauce. Great sauces, and they only added to the flavor. There are other sauces available, like a Alabama White Sauce that is really pretty good. The mac and cheese was really good. Good thick cheese sauce with some bread crumbs on top. I could have gone for a larger portion, but it satisfied. One of the workers brought around some Freedom Fries (seasoned French fries) as a sample and they were well cooked and seasoned. They went great with the white sauce. The sandwich combo with a drink and one side ran about $10, so it is a bit higher than a fast food meal, but I feel worth it for good BBQ. It is not going to be an everyday option, but something as a nice treat. Overall, I think Mission BBQ will be a welcome addition to the several other BBQ places in the area, and one of the better ones that...
Read moreI've come to see this place is hit or miss, no matter the location. The east side Evansville location is probably located in the worst spot for a busy place, ontop of that the black Mission BBQ vehicle is precariously parked which takes up even more spots. So, if don't mind walking, I'd save yourself the headache and park in the "Gen-Pop" area closer to the other restaurants.
Secondly, the food is okay at best. My order today was a XL Combo, so one meat and one side and a drink. I asked for Mac and Cheese and was very curtly told they were out. No problem, I understand and I opted for the seasonal side of Collard Greens. Major mistake. These were the worst greens I've ever tasted and they had potatoes and tomatoes mixed in with them? Maybe I am spoiled but greens, to me, are your green leaves, onion, and bacon. Vinegar with preference.
All in all, it's not a bad place. Certainly has a right-winged clinentel, so if you walk in with a mask you may get the death stare.
I don't remember if all the staff were wearing masks either, which I know is now up to the business and owners, but if it's something you feel strongly about (such as I do even know I am vaccinated but do not want to be a carrier and spread it to others), it may be something you really take into consideration.
I don't see myself or my husband going back anytime soon, it just wasn't "that" good for the money. Maybe next time will change my mind and...
Read moreYes, this place is kind of expensive. But the BBQ is so good. We have had a couple mishaps with forgetting food lately in our to-go orders. We were missing fries and I called when we got home and they gave me a refund. But today we did a mobile order, so they couldn't refund me, I assume, so I had to go back for the meat I was missing in my 3 meat sampler. We don't live far, but it was kind of annoying we had to go back. But they made it worth it! She gave me double of the meat i went back for, a side of peach cobbler (which I tried a bite of and it is so good) AND they gave me a coupon for a free meal next time we go back. I got the pulled pork, brisket, and jalapeno sausage. The sausage is always good, the brisket was moist and had a lot of bark on it so it was amazing. I took the suggestion of a fellow customer and put tupelo honey and smokey BBQ sauce on the pork and that was great too! Even though they messed up our order, it was all delicious and I'll get 3 meals out of what I got. So definitely worth the price. It pays to not be a jerk when accidents happen and your order isn't perfect! Oh and my wife got the turkey sandwich, which she says she's never disappointed in, and they gave us an extra bun for her to get 2 sandwiches out of the massive pile of meat...
