Tokyo Japan Sushi & Hibachi — Restaurant in Evansville

The sushi here is excellent! I just moved here from Cincinnati, and I am a sushi snob. I've tried several places in Evansville for sushi, and none were anything to write home about.

The sushi is spectacular. It's a hole in the wall joint, but I go eat for the quality of food, and not the appearance of the restaurant. After all, appearances can be deceiving.

Rolls range anywhere from $4 to $14, very reasonable prices. Although they don't have a vast amount of rolls, there are plenty to chose from. The spicy tuna is awesome-- with kiwi slices on top. Very good combination. I have been here 3 times now and everytime the sushi has been top notch.

Edit: Their Hibachi is terrible. Would only recommend getting sushi. Food went from very good to just good.

Ordered with Doordash Sunday before last. First time having food from here. First I will say the steak hibachi was great. Meat nice and tender and well seasoned rice and extra onions with the vegetables was spot on. The egg rolls were alright as well. The salad is basically the same general salad you get at other places. The soup wasnt bad either. The issue was the sushi. It's small, the rolls are small. We were not expecting them to be so thin and on the smaller side. All shown here was a little over 40 dollars. I really do not think I got my monies worth. (We have free delivery with doordash) The sushi rolls compared to other places here in town just do not hold up especially when you throw in pricing. Probably will not order again just due...

Update 2024: Interior has been updated since my last visit many years ago. Hibachi meets expectations and worth smothering in yum-yum. Sushi lunch special is a great value. Yum-yum is not as sweet from memory and I suspect the raw ingredients may have changed over the years. Appreciate that each table is provided their own yum-yum bottle.

Original 2013: Crazy about the yum-yum sauce! While the hibachi isn't the best prepared, the yum-yum puts the team it on it's back. Give it a try!
