This was my 3rd dine-in visit and 4th time eating here. I will absolutely recommend them to anyone who can handle more spice than a dash of black pepper. Delicious as always, I recently learned I had a fundamental misunderstanding about curry after my delicious dinner last night made me question my admittedly very limited knowledge of curry. I have always been told that Indian food is very spicy (my ancestry doesn't come much whiter), and I love spicy food. I have never been disappointed by the flavors of their curries (have tried 3), but have twice been disappointed in the spice level when ordering a 9 or 10. Both times I ordered the Korma. After 10 minutes of research on Google, I have finally come to understand, yet again, that:
Yak and Yeti has a calming ambience. There is a series of fine paintings of a mountain painted from a trekker's varying points-of-view along a trek. Other joyful art, including a tiny yak plushie, pairs with the gentle orange-painted walls for a relaxing/healing/calming atmosphere.
I eat here regularly as a part of my plan to prevent diabetes, which runs in my family. Good thing that it is economical to eat family-style at Y&Y. A favorite of ours is the Bhindi Dopyaza {Okra Curry} with rice and garlic naan {wheat bread with butter}.
Y&Y offers a spice level option (1 to 10) for some dishes, for example on the Okra Curry. I don't know how the kitchen staff do it: the spice level is always precisely accurate to my requested spice level. My spice level request varies between 2 and 6.
Service staff offer tip-tip meal recommendations, if asked. For example, Mr. Khem (Server at Y&Y) suggested that I try the masala tea—it is delicious. I'm glad I took his suggestion. Another winner of a recommendation is the Kashmiri naan with its yummy stuffings.
The goat and lamb are my suggestions to those looking for a healthier choice of red meat than pork or beef. There is no pork nor beef at Y&Y. There are many vegetarian choices, like the paneer {cheese} dishes which I sometimes order. They also serve chicken and seafood.
Overall, I give Yak & Yeti in Evansville a score of 20 out of 10, because they exceed my expectations for good food, service, price, and atmosphere. Thanks...
Read moreMy recent dining experience at Yak and Yeti was quite disappointing, particularly given my previous positive visits. Here’s a breakdown of what went wrong:
Service Issues: Long Wait Times: From the very start, service was slow. We had to wait an unusually long time just for our order to be taken.
Tea Issue: The tea was served luke-warm, and despite requesting hot tea, it never arrived, even after our meals were served. Eventually, we canceled our request as it was too late.
Lack of Attention: This was perhaps the most disappointing aspect. The servers showed no signs of apology for the delays. They didn’t check in on us to see if we were satisfied with the food, nor did they refill our water glasses.
Final Check Delays: After finishing our meal, we had to specifically ask for the final check and for boxes to pack leftovers.
Managerial Response: When we asked to speak to the manager, there was no response and this request was just ignored. As we were preparing to leave someone brought us the check. After sharing our concerns with him, he did listen and apologized, giving us a 20% discount for the inconvenience. He was the only staff member who acknowledged our issues and attempted to make amends.
Final Thoughts: Overall, this visit was a stark contrast to the usually enjoyable experiences I’ve had . While the 20% discount and the manager’s eventual apology were appreciated, it didn’t fully make up for the...
