I’ve had two different trips there and let me say both times has been extremely pleasant. 2 weeks ago I was referred by some of my co workers. For the second trip I actually made my visit today before it closed. On those two different times I came with my close friend. Whose not really into raw fish but enjoyed it so much! The staff is very kind and patient. Humble too. What I love the most is their spicy salmon and escolar. Very generous with the cream cheese. I was amazed to see that much amount on my bowl. Their raw fish doesn’t taste frozen. The way I can describe it, it’s like someone brought home their catch of the day and cut it right then and there. It doesn’t taste too fishy, I don’t know what they put in the fish, but it seems lightly seasoned. Seasoned enough for you to enjoy without being grossed out of the raw fish and shrimp. I’m actually selfish to the point I wish they were right down the street. If I could, I would eat there everyday. For its price I would say it’s worth it. It’s always a great combination to have good food and service. Even though Umami hasn’t been around for very long, I wouldn’t be surprise if it blew up. I’ll be coming back again here soon of course. Eating there is my...
Read moreWe used to love this place but unfortunately it has gone downhill at least from our last experience. The workers were friendly/attentive and doing their best to keep up what seemed to be a late lunch online rush. We went there around 1pm on a Monday. My wife got her usual 2 protein poke bowl and they definitely skimped on the fish portions from what they used to serve from even 3 mos or so ago. She said it didn't taste as fresh (she only gets plain tuna). I strayed from a my normal poke bowl and opted for a Seahawks roll. It was 90% rice and snow crab, very little salmon and it was not good; the tempura salmon pieces were small, dried out like they were over fried and the cream cheese wasn't spread out consistently so you got lots of creamcheese in some bites and none in others. We also got gyoza and chicken karage for our kids. The karage was by far the worse I've ever had, it tasted like it was fried in old fish oil. Guessing they use the same fryer for everything - salmon and shrimp tempura. Anyways, we were very disappointed with our last meal there after having gone there many time in the past. They do have mochi donuts there but after our food we chose not...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place because sushi burritos are hard to come by up north. Gave them about a dozen tries. I guess all I can say is don’t ever order takeout over the phone but order in-person because they frequently get the order wrong.
Today I ordered two salmon burritos with just salmon and avocado and a side of sweet mango sauce to-go. Despite me confirming multiple times that I did not want any other toppings, they stuffed the burritos with fake crab filler. Why? Lol. And they forgot the sauce. And then if you do get toppings, they’ll just barely put in any fish in there at all, like 3/4 of a scoop for an entire burrito.
They cut corners and before you know it you’ve paid 14-15 dollars for rice and initiation crab, mushy avocado and like 5 tiny chunks of salmon. I think they get enough business to stay moderately busy so they feel like they can cut these corners but the thing is, this is what’s keeping them from ever being a GREAT restaurant like FOB in Seattle or the Zen sushi burrito spot in Tacoma. Just focus more on quality, fair portions, and getting the orders right and you could have...
