The place was nearly full on this Friday mid-morning. The small tables against the wall are somewhat uninviting for a party of 1 or 2. But, since there is no counter, they are better than waiting.
The ambience is a little dark. But this is to be expected from a strip mall location with windows on only one wall. The staff does not necessarily radiate youthful excitement, but that's of no concern if you're looking for efficient & experienced service.
My breakfast arrived promptly. I ordered the eggs "over medium", but they were closer to "over easy". Either way is fine by me. I'm always curious to see what happens since I'm sure it isn't easy to hit the mark every time in a busy kitchen.
The bacon was tasty, but also on the less-cooked side. This is theoretically healthier than crisp bacon since overcooking produces compounds known to increase cancer risk. Sometimes I think we should just go crazy and see if we can enjoy bacon that is slightly less crisp than expected (similar to the epiphany we may have had about peas intermingling with mashed potatoes being OK after all).
Per typical diner protocol, you choose between potatoes or fruit. I always get both. The potatoes were just right, especially if you prefer to avoid burned pieces (see bacon comments above). The fruit was good, but nothing special. The overflowing metal service connotes old elegance, but an ordinary bowl might be easier to attack.
The toast is pre-buttered, which is convenient & reasonable now that we know fat isn't as evil as once thought. Also, the whole wheat bread is of normal size & thickness. Both are a welcome throwback to the days when toast was a complement to the meal rather than a way to deliver a pile of carbs so large it requires its own...
Read moreI had the worst experience ever at this restaurant. Me and my church family had been going here for years. We went for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the service was always efficient and the food was always good. About a few months ago we were sitting with my Pastor and his wife, it was four of us and it was another busy Sunday morning but. My Pastor left so it was 3 of us left, we were finished most of our food and basically was drinking beverages and the owner came over to our table and sat down. We thought she was going to speak to us but instead asked us if we could hurry up and finish because she had people waiting. I was speechless, appalled, disappointed and embarrassed. She was insensitive, didn’t care about us and all of the activity we bring to Kettle and Grille but instead it was about money and not customer service. I looked around and there was no one waiting. Usually on a Sunday there may be people standing or sitting outside or in the vestibule area but there was no one standing. We finished our beverages, got up and again no one was waiting. So this makes me think was it a racial thing because we were black and majority of the people were not of color. I would never go there again, and I still feel hurt about it. We went there on a regular basis. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had at a restaurant that me and my church family went quit often. I will NEVER go...
Read moreI absolutely love this place and everything here is made fresh and with love it seems like. I was 29 years old when I found the kettle & Grille online I went out to dinner with my now EX here and absolutely fell in love with their soups and bread baskets. A few months later when I found out I had cancer and had to undergo chemo and radiation, this was the only place that I can eat at that didn't make me nauseous. The waitresses and staff went out of their way to treat me like family. On days that my mouth hurt and I had trouble chewing they would Bake My rolls soft and give me Whipped soft butter so it wouldn't hurt my mouth and I would be able to get some food down for the day. Little things like that I appreciated when I felt like I was dying and my entire body felt like it was on fire. When I brought my godson there for lunch and I couldn't keep up with him from the fatigue, the waitresses sat with him and kept him busy and they gave him a cookie when we left, I never got to tell them how much that helped me that day and how much I appreciated their kindness. I will always come back to this place, if you've never been here before you are really missing out on a family dinner experience. Their soups are amazing and I really love their London Broil dinner before COVID, I can't wait until they have the stakes back on the menu :-) they...
