I do not normally review, but I felt compelled after seeing a couple of no doubt fake recent reviews to share the truth. The ice cream is nothing like it was before. It is whipped full of air and clearly they do not care about quality or consistency. It is extremely disappointing because it used to be the creamiest and best ice cream in all of SJ/Philly area. The water ice is entirely different, not creamy at all, and no longer available year-round. (If there is a machine in the back to make what they say is homemade, and they have been doing this since the turn of the century, why change now? Oh yes, new ownership.) After severe disappointment on the ice cream and water ice side, we resorted to the frozen yogurt some nights ago. It had certainly been a while, but I remembered it much creamier, more flavorful, and tasting less like chemicals. There is no way any of what is being sold has anything to do with the classic recipes that built the place and kept it standing for 20 years. The updates are nice, the new menus are easy to read, and the staff are always kind. It’s the product and new ownership that need work. Years back, I used to run into the wife who made the ice cream while she worked the counter and you could hear the machine going in the back. It was a family owned spot I was happy to give the money to. Prices are still relatively the same, you can take your family here on a summer night, but the heart is gone. You could probably turn to someone in line and they’d say the same. Used to make cold winter treks for that coffee… I miss the old owners. Will not be buying the usual cake this year. I do wonder where those old...
Read moreCame in last night for my daughter’s school fundraiser. We got in line behind a dozen or so people around 8pm. Service isn’t very efficient, took quite a while to get to the counter, 20+ minutes. Seems like there are a lots of steps to take to make an order. Ice cream on one side , toppings all the way across the room. Lot of running back and forth. Customer in front of me was a woman with 2 kids. In front of them was a teenage girl by herself. She was behind a woman who was there by herself. As the counter started to clear and we all inched closer to the door, the teenage girl managed to make eye contact with one of your employees. They smiled at each other and the girl went ahead and rushed past the customer in front of her and started ordering. Seemed like it was totally normal for them, happy and laughing. I was pretty shocked that the customer she cut in front of her didn't say anything. Ironically, that woman was wearing one of those viral sweatshirts that says “dear person behind me, the world is a better place with you in it. Love, the person in front of you.” As we got closer I overheard the girl talking to your staff and I’m pretty sure she also works there. I know having a staff of high schoolers keeps your margins down but someone should probably be supervising. Place could be cleaner too. Just seems like no one cares. On the bright side, the ice...
Read moreI had read about Daddy O's and searched for the best ice-cream cream places near me. So I took a ride on a warm Saturday evening to try Daddy O's. When I arrived there was a line outside the door. I waited about 5-10 minutes to be served which gave me time to assess the menu available and prices. On this evening the hard ice cream flavors had many that included some kind of cookies. I ordered a butter pecan reg-size cone. Butter Pecan must be popular because there wasn't much left. It was some of the best I've had that was listed as in-house-made. Was it worth the $6? No. For a once in a while treat? It depends on the occasion. The staff are friendly, working very efficiently to move the line. The decor could use an upgrade, there's plenty of indoor seating but on this evening people preferred to sit on the few benches outside the store or in their cars. If you go and don't know the area well it's next door to a 7-11 in a shopping plaza with other eateries and you could miss it. A friend of mine said she used to take her son's to Daddy O's when they were younger (now in their 30s). So since they are still in business it must be good enough. Not many good ice cream places are in the area or have been in...
