We decided to try Street tonight for dinner and were super excited. Unfortunately, our excitement was ill met. I will say that the dumplings were delicious and really the only reason this got above one star, though I think $15 for three rather small dumplings and some cauliflower is a bit much.
We ordered a second round of drinks when our dinner arrived, only to be halfway through when they actually arrived. I’d understand if it was super busy, but this was more due to all of the waitresses hanging out at the hostess stand dancing while our drinks sat on the bar and when we were waiting on the check.
Further, when my wife’s banh mi sandwich with the fake chicken came out, we were horrified. We expected something more than some frozen fake chicken nuggets stuffed between bread with a slice of cucumber, a sprinkle of daikon and some sauce. She isn’t vegetarian and asked for the pate, but it was left off. The sandwich was dry, frankly not good and a rip at $17.
But the real kicker was when we asked for a to go cup as she had a mock tail and the waitress brought it over only to drop the lid on the floor at our table, pick it up and then hand it to my wife expecting her to use it. Not only is this a health hazard, but it sets an image that they don’t care what hits the floor. We wanted so bad to like this place as it seems like a fun restaurant with an interesting menu, but the lid was just kind of the last straw in a list of problems. But I will say the hibiscus mock tail was...

Read moreWe ended up trying this place since it was a little late and the restaurant we originally planned on closed unexpectedly early. That was fortunate, because we had an excellent dinner here! I got the half-size Mexicali Bowl with pork, which was delicious -- it was pulled pork, and really tender and juicy. Plenty of veggies and beans in there as well. Prices tend to be fairly high here, but the half-size Mexicali Bowl is very reasonably priced, and still a decent portion. My wife got the pozole, which she enjoyed, but it was a bit too spicy for her.
Atmosphere is festive, and there's a lot of seating (including an outdoor patio). Hostess and waitstaff were uniformly friendly and efficient. We'll come here again!
Update: This place continues to be our favorite restaurant in downtown Exeter. It's consistently good, always with friendly service. The last time I went, I got the loco moco, which rivaled authentic loco moco I've...
