Saying I’m disappointed is an understatement as Biryani is amongst my favorite food and this place literally has biryani in its name and is a stone’s throw away from where I live.
So I was very excited about trying this and hoping we had a somewhat decent biryani place within walking distance.
How wrong I was.
The biryani, their signature dish, was abysmal! I ordered the large Karachi Chicken biryani (which is presumably a meal for two) at about $18 and hidden in the mound of rice were three small chicken pieces. It was obvious they kept the three pieces first as far away from each other as possible, and then gave them a proper funeral amidst a mountain of rice.
If you ever want to know what it feels like chomping into a mouthful of biryani rice, get this dish from here. SPOILER: It’s not gonna be good.
It actually reminds me of this one time I ordered chipotle and in the comments I put “extra rice” and the person who prepared it put nothing BUT rice in my burrito and I took an enormous bite out of it.
Suggestion to the owner: if you’re running low on chicken, either don’t sell the dish, or have someone cook some more.
$18 for 3 small pieces of chicken is unbelievable. Oh and there was one piece of boiled potato like an island in the ocean, sticking out.
Never coming back. Unfortunately good biryani escapes the Burke...
Read moreI had a very disappointing experience with Baba Biryani. I ordered two large trays of biryani at $180 each, and I was charged $120 for a small tray of Gajar ka Halwa. The halwa was ridiculously overpriced—recently, I bought the same size tray from Desi Bethak for only $50.
When the biryani arrived, the trays were only half-filled. Essentially, I ended up paying $360 for the equivalent of one tray of biryani. To make matters worse, they failed to provide the promised salad, claiming last minute that they didn’t do groceries. The raita was in a small box, completely inadequate for two trays.
This caused major issues during a lunch at my office, as many colleagues didn’t get food due to their negligence. Later, when I called the restaurant to complain, they sent an extra small tray of biryani, which a few colleagues who were still around managed to eat. However, it was too late by then, and I had to pay twice for Uber to get the food delivered since we are in Washington, DC.
That being said, the biryani itself was good, but the service and overall experience were terrible. I cannot recommend Baba Biryani due to their overcharging, under-delivery, and poor...
Read moreI revisited this place after a few months, hoping to relive the good experiences I’d had in the past, but unfortunately, it was a letdown this time. The food quality has noticeably declined.
The paratha in the roll was tough on one end, almost as if it hadn’t been properly defrosted or had gone stale. It was hard to chew and lacked any real flavor. The bun kabab was similarly underwhelming, with no distinct taste, just the overpowering flavor of the sauce masking everything else.
The biryani was decent, but the accompanying raita had a sour, unpleasant smell that suggested it was no longer fresh. The only item that stood out, in a good way, was the chicken samosas, which were crisp and flavorful.
It’s disappointing, especially because I used to really enjoy this place. But based on this experience, I don’t see myself coming back...
