Adorable cafe in downtown FairFax. I came here after hiking and walking around Point Reyes Seashore. I'd have to say this "Caffe" is more than that, it's a cute adorable restaurant that has good food, good service, and is really unique in its' building design and space layout. The building itself is of an octagonal shape, winding around to have a separate smaller room to the side of the main dining area.
In the smaller side dining room, there was a piano and there were a couple musicians playing music. From where I was sitting in the main dining area, I was not able to hear the music, but I don't know if the restaurant intended for the music to be heard by everyone.
There are also two wood burning fireplaces, one in the main dining area and another in the smaller side room, neither had a fire burning in them. I can only imagine how much it adds to the atmosphere of the restaurant when there is a fire burning. Probably pretty warm and cozy.
There was a really long wait list when I arrived and there were customers waiting to put their name on the wait list too. The restaurant was packed out, as the owners of the restaurant were celebrating their 14th anniversary (I believe) of being in business!
The way Sorella's is set up is a bit tight, but it's okay because the vibe of the restaurant is fun. It's not quiet, it's loud with a lot of hustle and bustle happening all around you, constantly. The seating area is a bit on the cramped side, with the tables positioned really close together, it is tight quarters.
I don't know if the restaurant is decorated all year long as it was the evening I went, but it was definitely festive with the lighted ornament balls hanging from the window ledges and the light reflecting off the windows. There were also stain glass pieces hanging from the window ledges, spread sporadically throughout the restaurant, about every other window, intermittent with the lighted ball ornaments on the opposite window.
Like I said, it was packed the evening I went, my wait was an hour before I was finally seated. The waiter came out with a huge carved parmesan, in which he gives you some of the shavings to go with the bread that's served. I ended up ordering, the spinach ravioli with pesto sauce instead of the tomato cream sauce, and it was really good.
Because the restaurant was packed the evening I went, the servers while attentive, also seemed distracted. I did feel a little rushed, but it wasn't so bad.
Parking for this restaurant appeared to mostly be all street parking, I only saw a tiny little parking lot to the side of the restaurant where there were only 5 spaces. There might have been another lot, but I wasn't aware. Parking wasn't too difficult the evening I went and it was a Saturday night. One of these days I would like to return to this cute,...
Read moreSorella Café is an absolute treasure in Fairfax! It gets busy early, but it's well worth the wait. We started with the Mista salad topped with crumbled blue cheese and their creamy vinaigrette. I promise, the vinaigrette is one of the best you'll ever taste, and do yourself a favor by adding the blue cheese—it's totally worth it!
For the main course, I opted for the pork chop with veggies, and I was super happy with the choice. The pork chop was incredibly flavorful, like it had been brined. It had a nice char on the outside and a very mild, but very flavorful, chimichurri that added that extra special bite.
To end the night, I had a cup of Graffeo coffee, which was strong and the perfect way to finish the meal. The atmosphere was a little loud, but it reminded me of a bustling Italian restaurant while still maintaining a cozy vibe.
Highly recommend Sorella Café and cheers to the chefs….they obviously know what they...
Read moreWe order food to go frequently. My husband likes their lasagne very much. They are organized and our order is always ready on time. The front entry area is super busy and the person handing me my order can be brusque, as if I am pestering him. There is also an undisclosed added charge added after you are asked to add the tip. The charge is for the restaurant welfare. We’ll continue to get lasagne there occasionally, but between the hidden fees and brusque treatment, it is almost more fun to make lasagne at home. Lastly, my husband felt that the most recent order was different—not much beef and more lunch meat-like meat that was meant to be prosciutto. More a personal preference but he missed the pieces of beef that used to be...
