Oh man. If there was a way to leave a review without a star, I would be the first! My FIRST time visiting was today in Fairfax. My husband was elated to share with me a gem in the Marin County community. He attended Marin College thus spending many years here as a local having favorite places & wanting to share them with me. Here we are today, after walking into the Cafe I was greated by a gal at the register. She asked "how I was?" in return, I said "I was fine & proceeded to order an cold brew and a cafe frapp" I added two waters to the bill & I assumed that was that. Then I saw the same gal that was at the register pour ice coffee, or as they called it "New Orleans coffee" into a 16oz cup, put that into the blender, scooped ice with the 16oz cup then added that to the blender, but before blending she added caramel to it...this puzzled me. I asked the gal, hey is that for me? She said yes. I then said but I asked for a cafe Frappuccino. No caramel please. The ice coffee I ordered then gets placed at the pick up bar with caramel in it..at this point, I ask for a manager. The gal walks to the back of house. At which point a "loyal customer" standing behind me states, "what's the problem? I have been coming here for 20 years" I turn to the man and state that this isn't his conversation to participate in, what is happening here??" A man with long blonde hair then comes walking out of the back of house with the same gal that helped me at the register & miss made my beverages. I then explained to the man my disappointment & frustration with the very coffees that were made for me incorrectly.... HE THEN STATES, "IT'S BECAUSE OF THE LANGUAGE BARRIER!" Excuse me, the problem is my coffee its made wrong! "How dare you, I have relatives 😤 whom speak other languages, this has nothing to do with it. It's my coffees man.. At this point an elderly lady stands starts shouting "you must have your mask over your nose" a woman with curly brown hair who claimed to be the owner, told the elder gal "she's alright, leave her alone" As a 31 year old female in a new place with customers jumping up in rage about my experience & my very need to speak to a manager. Was so frightening and the most un welcoming community I have ever been apart of. It is a shame!!! The man with long hair then states "I'm not the manager, I never said I was the manager." So explain to me why your the one who came from the back of house as the manager? Um your going to have to talk to Mark. Okay, where is Mark, he's not here. Ha! Okay so I'd like my money back please. The then proclaimed owner asks me to move away from the register so we can talk about it. I am still holding my two waters awaiting my change for my refund of the coffees. As I turn to walk with the owner the man with long hair reached for my waters & said "I returned everything, I'm going to need them back" my response, excuse me I asked that my coffee be refunded, I clearly want the waters. He then asks me to pay for the waters without giving me my change from the refund a $20.00 bill. Opens his till hands me 17 and change. I begin to walk out of the cafe, noticing my husband parked near by. I say, you need to get out of the car this is a problem, as the owner marches behind me,following me to my vehicle where my husband waits, "wanting to fix the problem". She followed me out of her own establishment. Shouting behind me to my husband "what she's saying is not true" EXCUSE ME?? As I entered the passenger side of our vehicle. She stood there, I havenever felt so attacked, so scared. Pushed towards a break down as strangers stand shouting for the sake of their community. What a horrible place they have here! They are clearly profiting off of the community, with little intention to do good by their customers! NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE! We are ALL paying for a service. It is our human right too want the service we pay for to be completed correctly!! I will never forget my experience I hope that no one else is made too feel accosted by quote on quote regulars! Go to JAVA...
Read moreToday I was told in an extremely aggressive, hostile manner to leave the Coffee Roastery outside seating simply because a homeless person (who I never met before) tried to make small talk with me and asked to pet my dog. The homeless woman was sitting outside the roastery at the table next to mine. The owner Deborah told me to leave and never come back. She also told my friend Sean that she’s fed up with the number of homeless in her cafe and people like me who indulge the homeless in small talk. The owner Deborah then called the Fairfax police to ensure they told me to never return to their cafe. Rest assured after tipping the barrister $100 today, I will never return. However I will indeed start a lawsuit against the Coffee roastery because homeless people are a protected class. I’m a landlord and I’m NOT allowed to discriminate against gay people or minorities or people with children etc. That’s against the law in America and Deborah will eventually...
Read moreThis coffee was hands down one of the best I've ever had! As someone who enjoys regular dark coffee with only half & half, I'm able to really taste the quality of the coffee itself, and this place was absolutely amazing. I stumbled upon it while passing through town one morning, and as other customers arrived, many of them seemed like regulars, while others had just rolled out of bed in their PJs. The atmosphere was incredibly homey and welcoming.
To add to the experience, there was free music being played by a pair of singers, one of whom looked like he might actually be the owner of the place. I didn't ask if the music was a regular thing, but it was soft and hauntingly beautiful. The decor was full of art nouveau motifs, and even the front door was a work of art. I would definitely make a point to stop in again if I'm ever in the...
