Stopped in here after looking at a wedding venue nearby. We were very excited to get some thing to eat and this place looked so cute. When we entered we were told to sit anywhere so we picked a table. It took someone 15 minutes to greet us and ask if we wanted anything to drink. We said we would get some waters. However, the guy forgot about us (which is understandable, I'm a server too) another 10 minutes or so goes by before a girl asks us if we wanted anything to drink; we said we would love some waters and that we were ready to order. We got told "oh I don't take orders, I just do drinks" we said that was fine and sorry for asking. She gave us our waters and then we waited another 15 minutes before an older lady grudgingly took our order. We honestly felt like we were intruding.
After that we waited for our food and then after about 10-15ish minutes of waiting a girl came back from the kitchen and said they were out of tortillas for my breakfast burrito, but they had smaller corn tortillas so they could do like a makeshift breakfast taco. At least that's what it came off as. I said that was fine, I can get down with some makeshift tacos. While we continued to wait I went into the restroom and when I got back they delivered my food but not my fiancés (which was fine sometimes food isn't ready at the same time). When I looked at my plate it was just a bunch of mush thrown together on a plate. I couldn't even see a corn tortilla; I couldn't even tell what was what. I honestly wish I took a picture. I still decided to try it because my philosophy or whatever is, just because it looks nasty doesn't mean it tastes nasty. I found what I thought was scrambled egg, but when I put my fork into the egg it started pouring all over the plate like they didn't even cook it. At the same time as me trying to eat my "mush" my fiancé gets told that his French toast order never got put in so it was going to be another 10-20 minutes. At this point we just decided to walk out because we had already spent so much time here. The only nice thing, is when we offered to pay for what was given to us they said we were fine. The only person that didn't make us feel like we were intruding was the girl who said "sorry I just got back from my break, but you guys are good to go."
It just sucks because we were really looking forward to a nice brunch before we traveled back home. The atmosphere of the place just felt like we were intruding and it was our fault for even wanting to get something to eat. We didn't even complain to them or anything because why start something, but I just wish we would've been treated a little bit better.
We ended up picking up McDonalds and...
Read moreAfter spending the weekend in Vegas, I was ready for some quality food back home. I was reading the reviews for brunch places around the area & was super excited to try The Hummingbird. It's a cute location. We were welcomed by the nice server and seated promptly. The place is cozy. Not to mention I was super excited to try their beignets. My friend & I ordered the chicken & waffles, the huevos rancheros & of course the beignets. Now this is when things went downhill. We waited about 20 minutes & saw our beignets at the window. HOWEVER, it was given to the table that came after us. We were not happy. A couple girls coming home from a weekend at Vegas, that got up at 4 am for their 6am flight? Yeah, not happy at all. Plus, we even overheard both servers talking about how the beignets went to the wrong table, BUT they never said anything to us. Our server avoided us the rest of the time there & passed us off to another server who, avoided eye contact but was more friendly than the other. This whole time we waited to see if the original server would apologize but they didn't. & by the way, we even overheard the other table mention they never even ordered the beignets but ate it happily. Our food finally came out & this whole time we were still waiting for an apology or a, "sorry for the inconvenience" but nothing. I had a look at my huevos rancheros & was immediately disappointed. The eggs were really runny & the salsa tasted like one purchased at a store. I was expecting it to be fresh. & the beans...do not get me started on the beans. & the garnish, was TOO much. It was more like they piled it on my food. & the hash browns were already cold. Luckily, there was hot sauce available so I made it work. So I was hoping the chicken & waffles would be the redeeming act. However, once again, garnish was not garnish. It was topped with so much green onion. But the chicken was moist. & the breading was good. & at this moment, the beignets finally made it out alive. 3 pieces of powered sugar on warm dough. Not too sweet, which I liked. But I think they should offer some Nutella on the side or even drizzle the Nutella on it. When we were finally ready to go, our new server gave us the bill & our original server made us feel rushed as she started collecting our plates while we were still sitting. Which by the way, no one cleared the tables of earlier guests until they left. What a tragedy. I probably will not be back & instead, I'll try another cute shop...
Read moreFriends have raved about Humming Bird Cafe and it got a great review on Check Please so I decided to give it a try. I live close so went down several mornings over several months with a friend. Twice we call ahead to make sure they would be open. Four times they were closed during posted business hours. Today was the fifth time and it was open. Immediately when we went in the hostess indicated it was a limited menu as the ran out of supplies. No egg dishes as they ran out of eggs. There is a grocery store a block away. How do you run out of eggs. I had been told by a friend that last weekend they ran out of chicken. I had the chicken and waffle and a coffee which was $22 without tip. I'm sure the waffles are good but mine was over cooked so not so great. The coffee was weak and luke warm. The chicken was good but great. I have heard the owner is seldom around so the quality really suffers. I wish I would have gone there when is was still trying to maintain a reputation. Next time I'll just go over the the Barefoot Cafe where the owner Tony is there, the food is ample and great. Coffee is hot and freshly brewed. I hear the french restaurant a couple doors down is good as well. Too bad about Hummingbird but if the owners doesn't care about the place what...
