Last week, I went to Sushi Prince in Fairfax City for the first time. I've frequented other Japanese restaurants such as Blue Ocean and Arigato in the area. In my neverending search for that perfect sushi place, I have even ventured out to Sushi Taro and Sakana in DC; and Yoshi in Vienna. The one I really liked was Sushi Taro before they renovated. The old Sushi Taro was great. The food was excellent, and the vibe was so very Japanese. Anyway, ever since Sushi Taro renovated, I just couldn't find "the restaurant".
Then, there, before my very eyes, was Sushi Prince. The place was beautiful. With colorful umbrellas hanging from the ceiling and small, paper lanterns every where, the place was magical. There were not too many tables. That suited me just fine. It felt cozy that way. Perhaps the noise level will get deafening if the place had filled up. But, there was only one other table occupied when we got there. So I liked what I saw already. BTW, the men's room was very clean and spacious. One of the perks of being a new restaurant, I suppose.
I ordered sashimi platter and dragon roll for the two of us. The waitress brought us green tea. She said they were directly from Japan. She didn't know the name of the tea, however. It had a nice aroma, almost that of oolong. It was not too heavy. I kinda liked it. For a buck fifty, I thought the tea was a pretty good deal. The waitress, who seemed a bit young, brought out the roll first, then the platter later. I kinda prefer to have the sashimi first. I suppose some would prefer to have the roll first. My fault for not asking for the sashimi first.
Anyway, the roll had a generous serving of unagi on it; also a good amount of avocado. The roll was excellent. Unagi did not have any fishy smell to it. I like fish, but not the fishy smell. The sashimi was even better. All the pieces had good colors to them. Also, they were cut in big chunks. Maybe, it was because the restaurant is kind of new. Or maybe that is just the way they come out. I liked them all the same. They were as tasty as they looked. Great vibe and excellent taste, I think I found my restaurant.
This review would not be complete without some criticism, however. The waitress seemed a bit confused. She brought the salads but not the miso soup. The soup came out only after the roll was served. Perhaps she was in training. The parking was also a bit cumbersome. There were lots of parking spaces in this mall, but the ingress and egress was a bit of a challenge. Especially the egress part. When we tried to get out of the lot, we were stuck on this light which seemed frozen for a long time. Even after the light turned green, there were cars coming from everywhere, trying to get out all at the same time. But, then again, these were minor issues. I enjoyed...

The ordeal starts when we we ordered salads to share. My friend and I asked for an extra plate. The waitress kept throwing lame excuses about how they don't have enough plates. Then she mentioned that they can't provide normal size bowls for "sharing". I was a bit surprised and had to gaze over the kitchen to see shelves packed with all sizes of plates and bowls. I got up from my chair and headed to the guy standing by the kitchen and requested that I have a bowl because they obviously have enough on display. They finally responded to my seemingly impossible request and I was able to enjoy my forbidden shared salad. Did I say enjoy? Not for too long. Twenty minutes after we were served, the waitress comes and asks us to pay because "system will be closed soon". We stared at each other in disbelief and tried to tell her politely that we are in the middle of eating which makes it inconvenient to start grabbing our purses and engage in the lengthy process of splitting the checks. She seemed very persistent that we pay right away. We chose to ignore the ridiculous request in attempt to enjoy what's left of the food. Five minutes later, comes another waiter with the most unbelievable request " The shop will close now, would you like boxes for your food?". At that point we realized that we are not dealing with a normal business and decided to stand our grounds. I will leave it to the reader's imagination to figure out how the night ended. Suffice it to say that we heard the F word loud and clear from the impolite waiter. One of my friends tried to talk to the owner in a calm way but it seems that he was no different than his staff. The only funny thing was the spectacle of the owner kicking the air with his foot and mumbling "I want to go home". That's his excuse for kicking customers out 15 minutes after official closing time. To add insult to injury, my friend who paid $50 in cash for a $38 check didn't get the remainder of her money. The waiter chose to consider the rest as his gratuity. She had to raise her voice and demand she gets the money back.
Bottom line: this place is run by a bunch of rude, impolite thieves who throw the F bomb in the face of their customers. Oh, and the sushi is mediocre. It was a mistake to try this place instead of our usual; Sushi Yama on Maple Ave.

Read moreSushi Prince has been my favorite spot since I discovered it not too long ago. Whenever I crave fresh sushi, it's my go-to place. However, my recent visit left me so disappointed.
After a tough day at work, I decided to treat myself to a comforting meal at Sushi Prince. Despite the DC traffic, I made it to the restaurant, eagerly anticipating a relaxing dining experience. However, upon arrival, I had a disheartening situation.
As I stood by the door, indicating that I was dining alone, the first server gestured for me to sit in a corner table. As I was about to sit down, another server came straight from the kitchen and asked if I was dining alone with a concerned expression. I confirmed, and she proceeded to inform me that I should wait for them to seat me next time. Quote “Next time, wait for us to seat you, okay?” with the high tone of voice like she’s really upset.
I was so confused and I asked if she meant I should wait to be seated. She confirmed, and I mentioned that the first server had directed me to the table. Then, she apologized, mentioning she had just returned from the back.
I believe it's essential not to judge others without certainty or witnessing the situation firsthand. Such incidents can greatly impact a customer's experience and tarnish the reputation of an otherwise enjoyable establishment.
I hope this feedback helps improve the customer experience at Sushi Prince, ensuring that all customer feel welcomed and valued.
Thanks! I hope you have a great day, lady, because you have...
