This establishment is incredibly discriminatory. The bartender an aged white man who looks like he spent years in the Klan saw a mixed race couple and the look of disgust in his eyes was pure hate.
I come to this town frequently and have for over a decade. Never once did I have this experience anyplace else. I came here with my wife and a friend who brought his wife. They refused to serve us and when asked why he said it was because one of us had a California ID while one had a New York State id. This was clearly a false justification for his hatred. I am submitting a claim to the BBB as well as the local police precinct for clear and obvious discrimination. Keep in mind this was a little before 5 pm on a Tuesday and the place was empty. With the exception of one overweight possible klansman associate who tried to make an excuse for the bartenderās blatant discriminatory action.
Also, keep in mind he only saw the state on one ID. He never actually tried to check the IDās in question. I have serious questions now about the town in general and its opinions on discrimination. Who would have thought such a picturesque town like Southport would have such a racist enclave?
In response to your response.
I as well as my friend attempted to show your bartender our IDās he flat out refused. What would you call that? And it is clear and obvious you donāt want to admit responsibility for you actions and make amends or try to reach out to me and resolve the issue. But I will be pursuing this with BBB as well as the police/lawyer for blatant discrimination. You should be absolutely ashamed of yourself. And to take the attitude you took without first speaking to me only shows your immaturity. And as per my BMW reference to your bartender it was solely to illustrate to him my point; how would I have a 80k sports car if I was under 21 and had a fake ID?
Why would I come to your little town and argue with the bartender to take a look at my ID? If in fact it was fake which it wasnāt. Itās simple. He didnāt want to do his job. He didnāt want to serve us. He wanted to talk to his friend and discriminate against us. He didnāt want to use logic, reason or intellect he denounced all of that years ago and it seems you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was a first hand witness to the account described above by Jeff. It is accurate and I would like to add that the bartender refused numerous times to even look or check their IDās. He was looking for a reason to refuse them service the second they walked in. And when he saw they were obviously tourists he latched onto that.
I regularly travel all over the country for work and never have I seen anyone refused service without the ID even being looked at. And believe me neither the reviewer above nor his associates looked underage. Both were sporting swarthy beards no child could grow. Plus, they both wore wedding bands. One of them even pulled out a US passport which wasnāt deemed an acceptable form of identification by the bartender.
What was funny to note is that the friend of the bartender who was sitting right next to the guys who had come in, tried to make an excuse for the bartender saying he had issues with local police due to his serving of alcohol to underage children in the community very recently. Thus, he was reluctant to take any chances... which would have been reasonable if he had looked at any of their IDās before making...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA great place for lunch, happy hour, last call, whatever. I had the Habenero chicken wings which proved to be very spicy and very crispy. The blue cheese is thick and chunky, almost too thick and chunky, as it makes it difficult to dip your wings in there.
Good beer selection, but not overwhelmingly over the top. It's difficult to get lunch and a beer for less than $20, which seems expensive to me, but I am...
