I love a hidden gem and Phowheels Burtonsville is just that if you’re in the mood for or open to trying Vietnamese Street Food.
The first thing that caught my eye was a cool murals painted outside and subsequently they are also painted inside to create a vibey atmosphere. The music is also as a vibe, you feel like you walked into an illustrated club!
Ok now for the food! It was hard to pick! There were several items on the menu that I wanted to try. The traditional Pho of course sounded good, and so did the tacos, but I ended up trying the honey garlic wings which were crispy, hot and flavorful!! They came with a garlic aioli that was a perfect complement.
I also ordered a chicken banh mi sandwich which was hearty and delicious. While it was a tad salty for my taste, I still enjoyed it.
Also decided to try their chicken and shrimp spring rolls; they were crispy and packed with shrimp, chicken and veggies. They were good.
Definitely plenty leftover for later!
Their menu ranges from banh mi sandwiches made with a nice crunchy french bread; you can substitute a croissant in stead, which I bet is really good. You can choose from chicken thigh, to pork belly, shaky beef or onion tofu.
Phowheels also has roti tacos where you can choose from the same options as the banh mi, but with a spicy lime cilantro sauce.
If you’re in the mood for a bowl, you’re in luck, Phowheels has rice bowls with the same options topped with fried egg, scallion oil and pickled veggies.
They’ve got braised oxtails, Bo-Khirria that you can get as a taco, banh mi, eggroll or Bo-kho with Pho noodles and veggies.
Phowheels also has specialty items including oxtail Pho tacos, Oxtail cheesesteak banh-mi and oxtail eggrolls.

Read moreThe interior decoration of this restaurant is really fun, featuring a black & white theme, and is fairly clean. The walls are filled with pleasing Asian cartoon characters.
Self-service: order at the counter, pick up your food when it's ready, and then clean up after yourself.
Food: pho broth - not bad. Pho noodle - got overly soft from covering the lid after cooking, which ruined the taste of my entire order. Recommend leaving the lid off for customers eating at the place to prevent overcooking the noodles inside. They have all the veggies placed inside the soup when ordering, rather than having customers put them in themselves. Just be aware. The house-made hot sauce has a kick to it, but it's delicious nonetheless. Eggrolls are pretty good. Oxtail inside soup is full of fat; the least the kitchen can do is to trim it off. Vietnamese iced coffee - we had so many Vietnamese coffees from all different restaurants, I can say, they're not authentic, too thick, did not taste right.
Value: The pho pricing is on the pricier side for what you get, especially without table service.
Parking: not an issue.
Conclusion: You can find better pho elsewhere with more affordable prices and higher-quality meat. IG@WineDinenVacay doesn’t...
Read moreI’ve been a fan of their food truck for years, so was happy to find out their store opening in my area! First few weeks were insane, the line was out the door when I tried to come, so I ended up coming a month later after their opening. Luckily it was a late Sunday evening with no wait. Chill ambiance inside with neat artwork all around!
Food was delicious—but keeping in mind that this place is “Viet fusion”. There’s a decent variety of food items! Got the Pho Dac Biet, Bo Khirria Tacos, and Oxtail Cheesesteak Banh Mi. Everything was well-flavored and loaded with lots of meat—they are generous! The Pho broth was flavored enough that I didn’t feel the need to add hoisin sauce, but the meat served was a bit too well-done for my preference. Tacos were so good—the 5 hrs braised beef shank was so tender and juicy, and the Bo Kho dipping sauce made the overall taste so much better. The Oxtail Cheesesteak was unique, and had a sweet kick to it—good ratio of the tender meat and veggie filling vs. breading.
The food is served in paper silverware and disposable utensils, like that “to-go” feeling—would have prefer it didn’t feel like I was eating out of a food truck, but an...
