Went to Zen this afternoon for lunch with hubby...our last experience was fantastic!..Today, not so such..the service was slow and sloppy..we had to ask for our drinks to be brought to our table after waiting a long time, but this was only the beginning...I ordered Orange Chicken, minus the chicken, sub tofu..what i was served, well after hubby had finished his entree was some sort of fake meat..not tofu at all, in fact it tasted like pork. We immediately brought this to our servers attention, believing that we had received another patrons meal. No worries, mistakes happen, i will gladly wait for the meal I ordered!..She takes the food away and returns with this young kid, who was clearly supposed to be some sort of shift manager, and clearly agitated by the fact that I requested the meal I ordered instead of what i was served...He was rude and obnoxious..He was loud and practically screaming at us about how wrong we were..I asked for tofu, not some fake meat bi product..He stormed away from our table shouting that the kitchen was going to make a plain "unseasoned" tofu dish for me and that it would be out shortly..Thats exactly what I got!..Plain, unseasoned chunks of tofu with orange sauce dumped over the top...Worst experience I have had in while...btw..this is not a cheap place to eat..lunch cost 91$ with tip..for two...I was soo done by the time my entree arrived that i boxed it and went home...Last time ever that i will spend money in Zen...Note to Owner, Operator..Please make sure that you know who you are putting in charge to represent your store when your not around...This kid was Nasty and solely the reason hubby and I will...
Read moreTerribly rude manager/owners. I've had many average and two awful experiences there and should have learned my lesson after the first one. One day, nearly empty restaurant and I go in alone for lunch. I request a particular seat and they make a huge ordeal about not wanting me to sit there because they "try to save those seats" for groups. Well, not a single person came in during my 30 minute lunch. Then today, I went back reluctantly with a gf, order a lunch combo with California rolls but request an upgrade to real crab meat - which I am more than happy to pay for as I have in the past. The waiter can't process ordering something specialized, has to go talk to the manager. The RUDE manager/owner (Mimi I think) comes over and questions me repeatedly saying she asked the chef and they have never made it that way. Basically saying that I am lying about having ordered it. I tell her I most certainly did order it that way and the last time they just changed me a dollar or two more and she SCOFFS and says, "A DOLLAR?!? No WAY." I said, "I don't remember what the upcharge was, but frankly I don't care, I'm WILLING TO PAY FOR IT. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?" She storms off and comes back basically yelling at me saying, "It's going to be FIVE dollars MORE" and I said "FINE!" My gf and I managed to suck it up and make it through that meal, but we are NEVER going back. Just because they have a beautifully decorated restaurant and are one of few choices in our immediate area, doesn't give them license to insult and challenge their customers. They are clearly becoming too comfortable with themselves. And you know what? The food is...
Read moreThe atmosphere here is really nice. As soon as you walk in the first set of double doors, there’s a giant waterfall, which is really cool. They also have terracotta warrior statues. There’s plenty of seating throughout the restaurant, including at the bar and sushi bar. The vegetable lo mein, vegetable fried rice, honey crispy chicken and chicken lettuce wraps are my favorite. The spring rolls are terrible though. They also have lunch combos, which are really affordable. This could be a chicken dish that comes with a side of rice and a soda. I usually get lo mein with a side of white rice and a soda for a lunch combo. There are no dinner combos though. And some dishes do not come in small sizes – you have to order the regular sized dish for certain foods. I’ve only tried their sushi a couple of times. There’s sushi is about a 6 out of 10 stars for me. If I want sushi, I’ll go to a Japanese restaurant. The food can be a little pricey however, I think it’s worth it because many cheap Chinese restaurants have terrible food. So you get what you pay for. Depending on the time of day, the wait time to order and pick up your food can be as long as 25 to 30 minutes; however, it usually only takes about 10 to 15 minutes when they’re not busy. Service is pretty good, but not outstanding. This comment is specifically related to the person that takes your payment when you come to pick up your food. They’re not super friendly but at the same time they’re...
