Ken's — Restaurant in Fairmont

UPDATED: They have now lost a loyal customer. I just recently ordered from ken's and I had the worst experience on the phone with the female worker. I asked for clarification if the total would be more with a card fee, to make sure I put enough in my balance for it to take out. She said, I already told you its $18.29. To where I made sure she understood my question and she never clarified. She repeated herself again and said "MY goodness, jeez" to where I asked why she was being rude? She proceeded to hang up. So I drove to the store and tried to order again. She immediately knew it was me when I said Im the woman you just hung up on and were rude to for no reason. She immediately says would you like to pay with your card now. I paid. I asked if she was going to address what just happened and she ignored me and stated "Your order will be ready in 10 mins." When my food was done, she handed me the bag and didnt even look at me. I was emotional. The least she could have done was apologize. I have never been treated like that by them before. I have been a faithful customer for years, I've complimented them, told them how much I admire thier hard work and am very personable whenever I come in. I have never been unpleasant with them. And here's the thing, I've worked in customer service and the food industry myself for years and currently I work 50 to 60hrs a week and I have NEVER treated me customers poorly even when they were wrong or blantly rude. I have always been kind and professional. This not only is disappointing, its disheartening. I will no longer be supporting this business for the simple fact that I wasnt important enough for her to simple apologize. Instead I was brushed off, ignored and treated like just a number. They were happy to take my money but turn around and treat a long time customer like garbage for absolutely no reason. I will remember the way I was treated forever. They have now lost me as a customer.

So, tonight I ordered my regular General Tao’s chicken. I had my food delivered. I have never had an issue from this place and they are my regular go-to for Chinese food. I had to call to let them know that for some reason the General Tao’s chicken was super spicy. Don’t get me wrong, I like a little spice but it was EXTRA spicy. I called and the lady did apologize and said she would replace the order. My appetite was ruined for the night so I asked if I could just take a rain check on the replacement order. I was told “No, you take now not later!” I said ‘Ok, that’s fine’ and hung up the phone. The guy who delivered my food was the ‘owner’ of Kens. I opened my door to take the bag and he said “No, you give me back the other food!” I told him that I had eaten a few bites outta that food, thinking I could handle the burn before it became too much to handle and was he seriously gonna take back food that was already eaten out of? He said that if I didn’t give him back the food from the first order than he would not be giving me my replacement food. I told him that with Covid going around I think that is pretty disgusting but I would oblige his request. Wow, we have lived in Fairmont for a few years now but it’s taken us this long to order from here. Too much time wasted! This place is the absolute best. It’s everything you want from Chinese takeout and more. I had the general tso tofu and vegetable lo mein. The tofu was crispy, and the general tso sauce is the best I’ve had in years, I loved the spice to it. The vegetable lo mein was exactly right, cooked perfectly. The crab rangoons are probably the best in Fairmont and Whitehall, at least.

Not to mention, everything was packaged perfectly - not a single missing sauce, side, soy sauce packets, napkin, etc. And for the price? You can’t beat it. 5 stars, this is our new takeout spot...
