So usually when I write these, I'm to the point. But in this case, since it's an award winning restaurant, I will explain in depth.
Walking in, you would never guess this was such a place. Nothing too crazy, just your average looking place. The hostess will get confused if you want to eat there as opposed to carryout but you will eventually be seated with a plate, chopsticks, a cup, and a metal pitcher of hot tea.
The waitress will be short and not ask if you want a beverage. In fact, she will say one thing only: "What can I get for you?" If you do not tell her everything immediately after that, you're not getting anything else.
In my case, I ordered Lemon Chicken for $13. When it arrived, the breaded sliced chicken was on a bed of lettuce, the lemon sauce in a separate bowl, and a cup of white rice on the side. The rice tastes like...nothing. It's rice. But there is no soy sauce or any other condiments in sight, and as I stated before, if you do not specify everything you want beforehand, you are not getting it.
I tried a bit of the chicken without the lemon sauce. Was a tad overcooked but nothing major. Added the lemon sauce, but tasted little difference. I then submerged the whole piece into the sauce, but the consistency of the sauce was like water and just rolled right off.
To make the experience a bit more unpleasant, there was someone seated behind me who thought he was a political expert who loved Trump. I did not recognize him from the administration, but I believe he may have been one of the 4000 press secretaries. Not a knock against the restaurant but it didn't help.
In short, this place is average. Ok food, subpar service, but the price is right for something marginally better than Panda Express. I may come back one day, but I won't be doing it anytime soon.

Read moreI work in customer service, so I'm very understanding and patient when it comes to food service workers; it takes A LOT to get me ticked off. I walked in at 6pm, and one of the workers was chatting with a customer who had already received his takeout. The other worker was answering questions for another customer who had a large order, sounded like catering. I waited patiently halfway between the register and the front entrance, though I was never acknowledged nor did the workers even make eye contact with me. It's fine, whatever. The Takeout customer finally left, and the first server stands there watching over the customer in front of me.
It's probably been over 7 awkward minutes at this point of me trying to make eye contact with one of them, and 3 elder caucasian people walk in. IMMEDIATELY the first worker greets them, walks PAST me, and offers them a table and menus. I tell her I've been waiting here to dine in as well, and as if she just noticed me, she tells me to take a seat.
She walks past my table to get to the group of elders, asks them what they want to drink, then walks past my table again without asking me anything. I decided to leave at that point. I had never felt more disrespected in...
Read moreDon't let the restaurant name fool you. If you are itching for Sichuan spicy, say no more. This is the place. The most authentic Sichuan food in the DMV area. The owners/chefs are originally chefs from Sichuan Cheungdu.
I couldn't tolerate a drop of spicy chili oil at all before. However, I got hooked when I first tried HKP's Chengdu month-watering chicken. It's the perfect appetizer to stimulate appetite and to ease into Sichuan spicy if you have never had before. When I took my family there, they killed the entire month-watering chicken dish in 5 mins and even packed up the leftover sauce for to-go so they could try to remake the dish at home. It was truly month-watering and that amazing! I have tried many versions of the same dish from other restaurants but none of it could beat HKP's.
After years of dinning in at and ordering takeout from HKP, my tolerance of spiciness have been trained and increased. I ventured to try so many other delicious dishes such as ground pork & pickled long beans, fried intestine with chili peppers and chengdu spicy cold noodles. It always comes through and...
