Folks come from all over the region to this place because it's stable, reliable, and folks don't mess around—unless you want 'em to.
I'll say this: if you know you don't like mutton, fry-bread or other Native staples, go to Popeyes.
But if you're down with grilled Diné glory, you'll be right at home here.
No Texans involved so nothing is smoked to death or dripping with disdain. —Fresh-grilled squash, cabbage, red onions, mutton, and greasy-greasy fry-bread. —Though if they ever venture into other culinary disciplines to see what happens, I will try the snot out of it.
All my nostalgic buttons are mashed here.
Atmospherically you can expect flickering lights (sucks, but totally normal), lackluster facade and interior decor—but still adorned with family photography that's totally magazine-worthy. —Which: if you know—you know.
In the background you hear Tribal Radio (100.1'ish?) with news spoken in Diné—which makes even outsiders feel at home and adds a humbling awareness for non-Diné folks.
Ren, Shay, and everyone there makes it feel like you're talking to your brother/sister, etc.
To paraphrase Rez Dogs: If you're not a sh!t-a$$, you're more-than welcome.
Come here if you want human food made by humans, and a feeling that leaves you feeling a part of something older and bigger than yourself. —No others...
Read moreWe hated this place, go anywhere else! The food was overpriced for what we were served. The steam corn had 20 or so kernels and large parts of the grilled lamb was like chewing on leather. When we were asked how everything was, we honestly answered saying there wasn't enough corn in the stew and it was too hard but we are just eating it. The waitress was apologetic but then a visibly mad woman stomped over from the back of the restaurant to our table, said she'd take off the stew from the tab, told my spouse to put the meat down that was about to be taken a bite of, and rudely yanked the entire dish away in an angry manner without even asking for clarification or asking if we wanted anything else. We have never been so surprised, appalled, or disgusted with a restaurant here in Farmington; who knew giving an honest answer would have a rigid response? Next time, we'll just go to Chambers Steakhouse; they serve Navajo cuisine too people :) They are friendly, don't overcharge, and are open outside this distasteful place's hours of operation....
Read moreWhen you guys just opened I heard bad stuff about your business so I didn't bother stopping by. Then one day I decided to try it out. When I ordered it didn't take me long to get my order. You guys were fast friendly and the frybread was big and delicious. The meat was tender also. As a native business I applaud you. keep up the good work, you will have some of our own "hating" because they expect too much. A little decorating wouldn't hurt. :) Your prices are about the same as getting a large burger so that's not an issue. Although there was a girl saying that she would rather go to Shiprock, there is time and location to consider. I am just glad we have a place that serves me my favorite food right down the street from my work. Even with my tie and suit on I don't care when I have my mutton! Ahe'he keep it...
