This is my honest opinion... We just left and I can say i am not impressed. I honestly don't know why it has such good reviews. Maybe my experience was just bad.. But here goes. We got there and there was wait.. Which is normal, maybe took 20 minutes.. So we sit down and order our drinks.. And food and whatever. We got our drinks, with no straws (might I add our waitress didn't notice our entire meal, no biggie though) We got our chips and We ordered an appetizer. Our food came out way before our appetizer and the waitress apologized that she forgot and took off the $1 or $2 soda off our check... I felt like she should've taken off the entire appetizer but I didn't care enough to say anything. Anyways so our fajitas were okay. But really fajitas shouldn't be 90% veggies and 10% meat. That was ours at least. So I wasn't a big fan, and the veggie plate that comes with it is so scrimp-small. And for being how constantly busy it is and the fact that your food takes FOREVER to get to the table. A second plate of chips and salsa shouldn't be EXTRA. And the salsa you get is a tiny tiny bowl. It's like you and your date cannot share the salsa or something...But if you're like me and love hole in the wall restaurants you see this place and think it's going to be good.. I probably won't go back so I wouldn't waste your money. Cantina grill in Layton...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBased on the other reviews i was excited to try this place as i have been looking for good Mexican food since i moved from Arizona. So my wife and i tried this place on a Saturday night. Small, quaint mom and pop type place. We were seated right away but out was still pretty busy - good sign.
Unfortunately, the chips starting the meal were stale, salsa was fine. The server could not direct us anywhere on the menu/offer suggestions. I ended up getting the chile rellenos and many wife got some nachos with shredded beef.
We got our food and dug in. I only got one chile (normally this is served with two) and no flour tortilla too go with it. Oh well, let the tasting begin. The beans were awful, thin with no seasoning. The chile rellenos was covered and filled with cheddar which you might think it's a good thing... Nope. I chewed my first bite for five minutes and tasted nothing but cheese.after scraping cheese of i got to taste the rest. The pepper was cooked fine but but the sauce had an odd sweetness to it that i didn't care for. Why woofer had a similar problem with her beans and the shredded beef reflected the same. Guac was mostly pico and tasty mostly of onions.
No one asked our we enjoyed our food so i suspect they already knew things were off.. Perhaps it was just a bad day? I don't plan...
Read moreMy first visit, but not my last. The food was excellent. I had the chili verde burrito ($9.99)...the portion size was big enough I had to box up half of it to take home (where I reluctantly shared it with my husband ;) ) There was guacamole & sour cream served on the side. I fell in love ⤠with their salsa. No chunks and just enough zing to let you know you just had some with your chips. I actually prefer my salsa a bit thicker but, the flavor was the big win in my book. My son ordered Chicken chimichangas Smothered ($11.99 + $2.49 for the smother.) Parking is a challenge if you go before abt. 5 unless you can find a spot on the street. They close at 8 during the week so, if you get the midnight munchies, you'll have to look elsewhere for your burrito fix. The dining area is small by most restaurant standards. I just prefer to think of it as cozy. Considering the portion sizes I think the prices are fair. I paid for two adult meals. 2 soda's and we shared a yummy fried icecream ($5.99). With taxes and tip the total came to just over $46. A bit pricey for lunch but, considering we both took 1/2 our portion size home, had free refills and a to-go cup on our beverages, and split a very generously portioned fried ice cream .. .. well, I'm OK with it. I hope you like it as...
