The next time you’re craving Italian food, take a drive to Farmington to visit Piccolo Arancio! Chef Flori Kryeziu has a menu full of modern Italian dishes that we really enjoyed. Piccolo Arancio has been a local favorite since 1994. We enjoyed all of our courses, with standouts being the perfectly cooked lamb and unique baked berries dessert. Everyone is super welcoming, and the menu has a ton of dishes and specials to choose from! Many dishes are prepared in their wood burning oven, including pizza. Don’t miss the homemade pasta! Head to my Instagram page for descriptions on all featured menu items. #foodofct #farmington #farmingtonct #hartfordcounty #connecticutlife #menu #ctfoodies #ctbloggers #ctblogger #ctblog #connecticuteats #connecticut #ctrestaurant #ctrestaurants #connecticutfood #ctlocal #italianfood #italianrestaurant #italianrestaurants #italiancuisine #italiancuisine🇮🇹 #italianfoodlover #italianfoodlovers #italianfood🇮🇹 #italianfoodlove #italianfoodisthebest

I haven’t been to this restaurant in 20 years, and unfortunately, it hasn’t been renovated or updated since then. Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed the decor was dated and lacked modern touches. However, I was still excited to try their signature orange glazed ravioli. To my disappointment, the dish was mediocre at best. The pasta was overcooked, and the sauce lacked flavor. I also ordered the lobster ravioli and was similarly unimpressed. The lobster filling was small and needed more flavor as well. To my surprise, the restaurant may have changed ownership within these past 20 years. The food quality and overall dining experience could have been better from what I remember from my previous visit. Overall, I would give this restaurant a rating of two stars. Despite its longstanding history in the community, it’s clear that the restaurant has not kept up with the times regarding renovations or food quality. While the service was friendly, it was not enough to compensate for the lackluster dining experience.

So I went here last night for Valentine’s Day and the first red flag was the 30 minute wait that we had (even though we had a reservation) ok no problem so we get seated. They took almost 45 minutes to get us bread which to me was pretty weird. The appetizer didn’t take that long and the calamari was pretty decent. The reason why I have the rating I did was due to the service. I feel like the manager of the place catered to everyone else who was waiting for their food, but us. The wait staff was cool and apologetic I have no issues with them but it was very clear we was being ignored and we really tried to be understanding due to the holiday, but to not even be acknowledged after waiting 2 hours for our meal to come was unacceptable to me. My money is green like everyone else’s but the food was ok not great I had the lamb with the spinach and mashed potatoes it was average and my spouse had the swordfish. For the price point the portions were very small. For our first dining experience here we will not be back!

First red flag was the restaurant being empty at 6:00pm on a Friday night. Waitress brought out bread that felt like it was left out in the open for days. We ordered a $12 salad that could fit into the palm of your hand, by far the smallest portion of a salad I have ever seen. While the waitress was kind, we asked for a simple request for both meals (replacing the potatoes with a vegetable) and she wasn’t able to remember, so unfortunately we didn’t eat that part of our meal. Ordered the filet as an entreé, which had to be butterflied for some reason, and was impossible to cut with the dull steak knife. The waitress saw and agreed it was so dull and apologized, but her solution was to bring another knife that had a 4” blade and was extremely flimsy. When the gentleman (who I presume was the manager) came over he asked how everything was, and we said “good, but I think you need sharper steak knives. Instead of finding a solution, he became defensive, saying no one ever complained about them before. Mind you, the waitress came over after seeing how difficult it was to cut the steak and brought over a different knife without us asking. My wife’s salmon was delicious and cooked perfectly. Safe to say though, we understand why the place was empty and will...
