Mancino's of Fenton — Restaurant in Fenton Charter Township

The extremely polarized reviews here are funny to me. Let's walk through the complaints I see.

First, I've worked in food service in the past for many years. I'm currently standing at the counter watching my order be prepared. The kitchen staff are all diligently working at station's preparing orders, dough, and other food items. Everyone is gloved and using proper food handling practices. The floors and work surfaces are all very clean. The tables are all very clean. I don't see dust or random debris anywhere. The bathrooms are clean. The condiments station is clean. The soda machine is clean. I see zero food safety issues or any cleanliness issues. Even the overhead lighting and ductwork appear to have been cleaned recently. The staff were extremely pleasant as always.

Are the tables, bathrooms, and some shelving in the kitchen a little dated. Yeah, kinda, but they are still clean and serviceable, and remember this is a local pizza joint, not steaks and wine fine dining. This is exactly the decor I'd expect for a pizza place.

Quality of the food. This is really where Mancino's shines. The pizza and grinders are honestly some of the best I've had in decades of travel.

My order was prepared very quickly. Do they get behind sometimes. I'm sure they do, every restaurant does. The margins in not-huge-chain restaurants are really thin, so you staff the best you can for the EXPECTED work-load, but sometimes weather, or bad days, or some other external factors change the expected number of orders. In those unavoidable cases, the STAFF who deserve patience, I'm certain do their best.

Unfortunately the way reviews work is, many people who never review at all get upset with one instance and jump in to drop a one star, likely after many orders that they didn't remark on at all.

I've ordered lots of items lots of times here. It's always exactly what I expect from a top-of-the-line local pizza place.

UPDATE: Adding an additional star for the prompt response of the owner. I greatly appreciate you providing us with our refund VERY unhappy with the service here. This used to be one of our favorite places! Service has completely gone down hill. Ordered carry out here, get all the way home and my order is made wrong. I call to inform the receptionist Melanie of this, state that I will bring the order and the receipt up for my refund, as at this point after getting all the way home to find the wrong order, I simply just want my money back for the one sandwich that was made wrong. At this point we don’t want this sandwich, not even a bite taken out of it, and I ask for a refund and we’re told no initially. Then I inquire further as to why I am unable to be refunded, then this women she yells to the other employees, “does anyone know how to do a refund?!” She then says “OBVIOUSLY none of us can do that”. No one knows how to do a refund… the woman on the phone was so rude and had nothing but attitude. She had attitude from the minute we told her our order was wrong. It’s unacceptable. So apparently the manager works 10-5 tomorrow and somehow I’m should have to manage my work schedule in a way that I can be here while the manager is at work?! Absolutely ridiculous! I spent near $40 on food and half of that money is spent on an incorrect order. We won’t be back. Thank you so much to Melissa for being so kind...

We did takeout of two personal pizzas, one cheese, one ham and an antipasto salad.

The crust on the pizza was deep dish and hand tossed. The deep dish crust was burnt. The hand tossed was chewy but very good

Lite sauce was ordered for both and the sauce was very light, but that was ok because it is better to be very light instead of having too much. You might consider ordering a side sauce. So you add more if desired.

Salad was disappointing. The meat portions were tiny, Two very thin slices of each meat and it was not cut so I had to cut rolled slices of meat into bite size pieces.

I am not sure I found any tomatoes. Onions were only a couple slivers. Cheese was sparse, I saw no black or green olives.

I ordered Italian dressing thinking it might have been a house dressing. I received two packs of Maziett's dressing.

The salad portion of lettuce was a good size and could easily serve two.

I would not order the Antipasto Salad as a meal again, it lacked enough protein to qualify as...
