UPDATE JULY 2025: After giving the recently sold, renovated, revamped, and reopened The Station (previously Warren’s Station) restaurant in Fenwick Island four visits (two breakfasts, two dinners), we have decided it's just not for us. And that's sad, because in its previous life, it was our favorite when at the beach.
From the reviews, a fair percentage of the patrons seem to like The Station; we find the atmosphere noisy and the menu uninspiring. BUT, that's just one couple's opinion, and others should try it and decide for themselves.
PREVIOUS REVIEW: We recently visited the former Warren’s Station restaurant in Fenwick Island, DE following its sale to a former employee and reopening as The Station restaurant. I would like to say that The Station has replaced Warren’s Station as our favorite eatery when we're at the beach – but I can’t. And, sadly, it's not even close. We've eaten two meals at The Station, breakfast and dinner.
For breakfast, we were seated at a spacious table for four in the newly renovated spacious center of the main dining area. My wife ordered her favorite – sweet potato pancakes, and they just didn't do it for her. I tried the Farmer’s Market omelet, which was ‘just OK,’ but a small portion served with hash brown potatoes and plain toast (no butter was offered). The hash brown potatoes was a ‘patty' similar to its McDonald’s counterpart. Hostess and servers were friendly and attentive. We even met the new owner, who stopped by our table asking if everything was OK. She didn't introduce or identify herself as the owner until my wife asked her.
Our next visit to The Station was for dinner. We were seated at a small table for two, butted up against the wall in a smaller area off of the central dining area. I should mention here that the renovations have opened up the dining area, but (unfortunately) the open area is noisy and not conducive to dinner conversation (hard to hear). My wife ordered the Chicken Chesapeake, which she said tasted ‘fishy.’ The new menu has dropped some old favorites, so I decided to try a crabcake. I asked our server if it was available as a single crabcake, and she advised that it was one crabcake (menu listed it as ‘crabcakes' [pl]). When our orders were delivered, there were TWO crabcakes. The server, when she noticed I only ate one crabcake, mumbled something about an 8 oz. serving that was split into 2 – 4 oz. servings. I'd also asked if the crabcake could be broiled instead of fried, and was told that it is broiled. I can't say for sure, but my crabcakes had a slight sheen on the outside – something I don’t typically notice in a broiled crabcake.
Two things about the food: Warren’s Station served rolls included with dinner. The Station offers rolls as an appetizer, at a $9 extra cost. One of the sides offered is cucumber salad – The Station’s version has some sort of dairy ingredient (sour cream, yogurt, ??).
One last item: The Station serves its diners water (not chilled) from a carafe, which is left on the table for refills. My wife observed a busser clearing a nearby table pour a diner's leftover water from the glass back into the carafe. Now, maybe the carafe goes through the dishwasher, or maybe it doesn’t (since it's just a vessel for drinking water to be poured from). But, an observation like this certainly puts a big question mark into your mind, doesn’t it?
We may return a third time to try the roast turkey dinner – a Warren's Station house specialty that’s been carried over through the change in ownership. Honestly, I'm not expecting much, but we're willing to try it.
I give The Station a ‘generous’ (because they’re new and going through ‘growing...
Read moreMy family has a history of trying to come to this place every year we come to OC and now it is under new management and we were able to finally come. We were told it would be a 45 minute wait and we were seated in 20. The waiting service was excellent and the atmosphere was good. We had high hopes for our meals.
I ordered the seafood platter. The shrimp were bigger than the picture displays but it was alright. The crabcake was as bad as it looks, it is the first time I didn't finish a crabcake in my whole life. It had no lump meat and despite appearing to have little filler, you couldn't taste any meat and could only taste filler. The fish was fine, completely flavorless, but had good texture. The fried shrimp were alright, 1 of the 3 had a gross mealy texture. The mashed potatoes and cucumber salad were good, but it doesn't make up for the depressing main meats.
Someone else at my table got the chicken Chesapeake. There was little crabmeat on it and the chicken was very dry, tough, and flavorless. Another person got the catch of the day. It was halibut; also textured nicely but lacking in flavor again. The best meal we had was the imperial stuffed flounder and the burger, the burger eater being happiest. The menu is incredibly inconsistent. The crab imperial added much needed flavor to the flounder.
A party member was adamant on complaining to let management know what a mid meal most of us had, especially considering it is not cheap. They were also incredibly disappointed just by looking at my crab cake. They complained to the manager in a respectful way, letting them know how disappointed they were in their meals and asking nothing in return. The manager listened but did not seem concerned about the poor meals we received. It was embarrassing watching it unfold as it was clear the complaints didn't make a difference.
I highly recommend against coming here if you are seeking out seafood, particularly crabcakes, especially as an avid Maryland seafood enjoyer. There are hundreds of better locations in OC where management cares about their customers' complaints. I hope they end up trying their own menu and make some adjustments because (especially with the chicken) there are objectively bad meals being served.
I would also like to stress the sad excuse for a crabcake in which I sent a picture to someone and they asked what was on my fork. AI also tried to caption the image and guessed it was a biscuit. There is certainly some good coming from this place but none of it is from...
Read moreThis is the first time I've written a review ,I usually just don't go back but since I've been going to the former Warren Station for 40 years I owe a review. A restaurant with 65 years of good will and customer base you would assume you would want to keep the experience and improve. Bar/ Restaurants are a dime a dozen down the ocean. Family restaurants are not.
The the first thing you notice is the prominent bar sitting dead in the middle of the space. The noise level is elevated. We reviewed the menu and there was a small section for the Warren Station classics. Three of us tried the Warren Station Classic menu selection. We notice that there we no soups on the menu. "NO SOUP FOR YOU" The cream of crab soup was the best! The chicken Chesapeake was small along with the 8 string beans. The plate was half full. My daughter and I selected the seafood platter. Nothing special and it did not include scallops as was custom for the seafood platter.(Combo special #4) I believe I had 7 cucumber slice in my cucumber salad. My son has mussels and clams with no complaints. He asked for some honey mustard to dip his fries and the waiter sheepishly said it would cost 25 cents. My wife had the salmon which she said was average.
The experience was disappointing for all. We normally stop in 2-3 time but we only came once.
I would suggest to review the menu over the winter and revive the old Warren Station menu and integrate it with your bar. I believe you could still have a winner with some...
