The Hidden Crab — Restaurant in Fernandina Beach

2nd review... returned with a friend for crab. The restaurant was half full with four waitresses. We waited more than 10 minutes for beers while sitting at a table next to the bar; apparently the wait staff cannot open the beer. (Our waitress may have been under 21.) Our waitress was cute but not very good: We ordered water which never appeared, and after ordering our food, it took forever to arrive without any waitress interaction. My friend ordered fried okra for an appetizer, and, compared to my previous visit, the serving was tiny. I had the crab cake dinner promoted as lump meat "All killer! No filler!" It was 60% filler with no lump meat. Think crab stuffing for shrimp or fish. I only finished one. I requested corn on the cob for a side dish. They are available with a boil for $4 for 2 small cobs. I was charged $5 for 1. The waitress couldn't explain the difference. My friend had a bowl of chowder which was good, but seafood-essenced potato soup just isn’t enough. I so wanted to love this funky lil out-of-the way place, but I cannot recommend it, and I won't return.

1st review... Went for the fried chicken and it was awesome. Destiny, our server was great too. The sides were lacking. I had turnip greens which seemed to have been warmed out of a can, and fried okra which tasted like Cisco's best, good and plentiful. My friend had lemon pepper wings which lacked flavor from any fresh ingredients (like lemon zest!) and cole slaw which could've easily been served from a 5 gallon US Foods bucket. I will return for the chicken, because fresh fried chicken is a delicacy, and we'll probably try some other menu items. But don't expect hand cooked everything, bc hey, this ain't...

This place was referred to me by one of my customers because I LOVE lobster rolls. We walked in & was able to seat ourselves immediately & the time was 12:00 p.m. on a Sun. Within 2 or 3 mins a young lady was at our table to take our order. We started with fried squash which had amazing flavor & fried perfectly & trust me I've tried everyone's. We had gone to Outback Crab shack previously & paid $35 for a lobster roll which was ridiculous but at Hidden Crab the lobster roll is $22 & packed full of lobster & very flavorful I absolutely loved it & I will only come back here when I want a lobster roll! My husband had the 30 pc fried shrimp which were a great size & so full of flavor, fried okra for a side was so flavorful. The cooks are AMAZING here! Our waitress, a thin young lady, paid constant attention to us & we always got everything we needed & she did a great, great job, really appreciate the great service! My only issue was I ordered a salad with romaine lettuce & it s/b a deep green color but was more yellow, maybe buy better lettuce. The atmosphere was quiet and I appreciate no blaring music while my husband and I are trying to have a nice chat at lunch. Some of their other reviews mentioned the condition of the parking lot which was not perfect but the holes were not a foot deep or anything you could maneuver to park just fine. Terrible from the time we walked in until the time we walked out... The snow crab legs were so over cooked they were soft and wouldn't "crack". They were fishy and dry! The old bay season tasted like it had been sitting in there for days! I tasted the shrimp my family ordered and it tasted like the bottom of an ashtray! 🤢 I didn't want to discourage them so I didn't say anything, and on the way home my 12 yr old said the shrimp smelled like cigarettes so I came clean about what I tasted! Service was so slow another table got up and walked out and we wanted to also... The bartender was useless! We asked our server for silverware as our food got cold and she didn't remember... We then asked the bartender who was talking to a patron getting a to go order and she just said no she didn't have any and continued to have a conversation with the person she knew that was picking up the order instead of running to get us silverware really quick. The tiny little girl was running around everywhere and we had to get back up and ask her for silverware... The macaroni and cheese is absolutely disgusting! No tables were being bussed and cleaned when people left .... We will never be back here! The owner is sorry and it shows! Another table came in and saw my face and got...
