Quickway Japanese Hibachi — Restaurant in Ferndale

I love the Quickway in Pikesville so when I returned to town after a long flight I decided to stop at the Quickway near the Fast Park. We ordered a Chicken Bento box and a Shrimp Tempura Roll hold the sauce. I asked for extra wasabi (which they gave me) and extra soy sauce and confirmed that one Yum-Yum sauce came with it. We also got a couple of drinks. The food was made fast and when they were bagging it up I asked for the little cups of soy sauce (like Pikesville gives you) so that we could dip the sushi in soy with wasabi. They gave me an empty container. Then I asked it we could have extra packets of soy sauce then. He said he gave me some. I looked and said, "You gave me 4 packets and we have an entire bento box and a sushi roll so could we have a little more." He said he gave me soy sauce already and I again reminded him how much food we ordered and I'd asked for extra soy when we ordered (I would have paid for it if that was required). He threw a hand full of soy sauce packets towards me into the bag said "there" and then shooed me away. We leave, get to our destination and in the end he forgot the Yum-yum sauce. The food was decent but I could have done without the attitude when he ends up leaving out the sauce that goes with the meal. Next time I'll go to Chipotle next door and wait until I'm back in the Pikesville area to go to...

I want to love this place, but it misses the mark in a couple of areas. It's still a nice lunch option though, and is pretty good for a fast-food hibachi place.

With that said, this place delivers most of what you want from a location like this. The meats are all good and the yummy sauce is delicious. Additionally, the sushi, spring rolls, and dumplings are all very tasty and make the Bento options an attractive choice.

Of the times I've been here, the service has been usually reasonably quick. Don't come in expecting Jimmy Johns speed though, expect to wait a few minutes. Additionally, the staff has always been very nice and the place seems pretty clean.

The areas the restaurant falls short in are the fried rice, veggies, and drink options. The fried rice is good, but not amazing. The veggies bland and forgettable - when I get the Bento option I basically ignore them. Drinks are your standard set of fountain drink options with a few bottled offerings thrown in for good measure. I really wish they had tea, as I don't really care for sugary drinks with my lunch.

I have eaten at other Quickway locations and this one was the least pleasant.

Main cashier cannot speak English well enough to understand him, which made it difficult to place my order. I ordered the shrimp and salmon combo no rice or noodles just mixed veggies. I also ordered the Rock Starcroll sushi roll. Then as my food was being boxed, I asked to see it and to my surprise my food did not appear appetizing. I asked for extra teriyaki sauce & some yum yum sauce. Being as though I was though I was on a lunch run from work I didn’t make a big deal about the minimal shrimp and salmon portions. I get back to work to realize the extras sauce made my food very watery. I’ve never had watery yum yum or teriyaki sauce it’s usually thick. My salmon was over cooked, the handful shrimp weren’t great either. The best part of my lunch was the old bay seasoning I added to top off my sushi. I literally gave my boss salmon and shrimp to add to his food that he ordered.
