Don't you just love when you find a good breakfast restaurant? I'm not talking a fancy one with a fancy menu. I'm talking about the one that can make the standard breakfast right. 2 eggs your way, meat cooked your way, potatoes not over seasoned or cut to large, and a choice of bread cooked the way you want. It's hard to find.
This morning I had success. We went to Sammy J's on Moody Blvd in Flagler. This restaurant is in a small plaza on the mainland, but just barely. It was easy to find and to get to. Plenty of parking and handicap access.
When we entered we were greeted and told to pick our own seats. Within a minute we had a waitress taking the drink order and pointed out the specials on the wall.
She returned within a minute with the drinks and could see we were still looking at the menu so stated she would be right back -- and she was. We still had time to finish reading but were not sitting idly waiting for her.
We placed our order. My guest ordered the standard breakfast mentioned above. He is a little bit picky. Eggs scrambled well (dry and browned) with Corned Beef Hash, home fries and a toasted English Muffin. He was asked all the appropriate questions and given choices for the different items. He added grilled onions to the potatoes.
I ordered one of the specials named the The Barnyard (breakfast sandwich). It consisted of egg, cheese, bacon, sausage, Canadian bacon, two pieces of french toast and home fries. This was to be eaten as a sandwich but when it came out it was plated so that you could make it a sandwich or just eat it the way it was and save the french toast to have with syrup if you chose to - which is what I did.
My guests eggs were cooked perfectly. He was not a fan of the home fries because they were seasoned - but they were crunchy outside and soft inside. The grilled onions were good and not only could you see them but they were in perfect quantity to enhance the flavor. The corned beef hash was on a plate by itself but was cooked the way he liked it. It was a large amount of corned beef but still not too much. The English muffin was toasted but not buttered. Butter was provided but it was hard to spread due as it was so cold.
My meal was delicious. I was so happy to get to try all the meats available in one meal. The meats were very flavorful and not over or under cooked - my favorite may have been the Canadian Bacon. The potatoes were good but next time I would probably skip the additional peppers that I ordered. They were a little over cooked to my taste. The French Toast was also cooked to perfection.
I look forward to the next time I am in the Flagler area and can once again visit this restaurant and try the Sausage...
Read moreI usually don’t provide reviews of the restaurants at which I eat; nonetheless, I felt compelled to issue a review, and in particular, respond to a review previously submitted by a group of 13! First off, let me say that I’ve never had a bad experience at this restaurant! The food is always excellent and the service is fantastic! We often bring our little grandson with us and the wait staff always makes a point of “making over” him! Now, in response to the review issued by the “group of 13” a week or so ago. My wife, grandson and I happened to be there that morning! We witnessed the wait staff doing their best trying to accommodate the subject group having advised the group that they would not be able to sit them all together (the restaurant is small and not set up to accommodate such a large group all together)! What we also witnessed was this group of 13, a few of whom were meandering in and out of the restaurant, appearing to have a difficult time deciding whether they were staying or leaving! I can certainly understand the restaurant’s wait staff frustration after having to deal with the subject group’s indecision! I’m sorry group of 13, but felt that I needed to voice my perception of the subject...
Read moreI live close by and never been here, what a surprise, on the good side. I walked in around the 9 am time it was crowded ,but there were a few seats available. A friendly face look up as she was serving a table of people and smiled while she asked how many, and it was just 1 , she pointed to a table that seated 2 and that was excellent. I had a cup of coffee and another lovely waitress with the best personality greeted me and took my order of 3 egg omelet with spinach and fete cheese, very good!!! It came with 2 slices of toast and home fries, the home fries were over cooked for me. I had to take some of the food home,it truly was a nice breakfast and I will be back again. I mentioned to the waitress when I was leaving about the home fries and she politely said that if they were over done for me that they would have corrected the request. My overall experience was delightful and If you are near Sammy's Boston's Best Breakfast on 100 stop in for a nice...
