Delicious Breakfast and Cozy Atmosphere, but Service Could Use a Bit More Warmth
I recently visited Brandy’s Restaurant and Bakery in Flagstaff during a quick trip up north. It’s not a place I typically visit, as I tend to gravitate toward downtown spots, but my daughter chose this café, and I’m always happy to try something new.
The restaurant has a charming, cozy atmosphere, and I was excited to see what they had to offer. However, our initial welcome didn’t set the best tone. When we walked in, no one greeted us, not even the barista at the coffee bar, who was facing the door. A simple “welcome in” or “someone will be right with you” would have made us feel much more at ease.
We waited for a few minutes before the hostess approached us to confirm our party size. I noticed there were a couple of open booths, so I requested one. She mentioned needing to check if a booth was available, then returned to say one was open and that we could seat ourselves. While I appreciated her effort, there was a lack of communication about what to expect next. She didn’t mention that she would follow with menus or take our drink orders, which left us feeling a bit unsure of the process.
Once we were seated, things started to improve. The hostess returned with menus and asked if we’d like anything to drink. Shortly after, we were introduced to our waitress, who was much friendlier and more engaging than the hostess or barista. She checked in to see if we had any questions and made us feel more comfortable.
When our breakfast arrived, I was impressed by the plating and portion sizes. The food was fresh, well-prepared, and generously portioned. The menu offers a wide variety of options, and I appreciated that breakfast is served all day, making it a great choice no matter the time of your visit.
Overall, I found Brandy’s Restaurant and Bakery to be a lovely spot with delicious food, but I hope they make small adjustments to improve the service experience. A more welcoming and attentive approach when guests arrive would go a long way. First impressions matter, and something as simple as a friendly greeting can set the right tone for a positive experience.
Would I return? Yes. The food and atmosphere were both enjoyable, and I’m always happy to support local establishments. With just a bit more warmth and attentiveness from the staff, I think this café could really shine as a...

First time at Brandy's. Not trying make the restaurant look bad; just an honest review. The overall experience was not great. The staff were busy, but we were sat immediately, which was nice. It was a small two-person table along the wall of the restaurant next to a high traffic lane. As soon the drinks started arriving I knew we would not have enough space for our food, so I asked if we could move to another table (there were several empty), but an employee refused on the basis that those tables were reserved for larger parties. The server had to help us organize everything onto the table so that it all fit; we made it work by removing the glasses from the mimosa flight board and leaning it against the wall behind the condiments. Was uncomfortable and felt the wind as people walked by; had to watch my elbows constantly.
The Mimosas and coffee drinks were pretty tasty, but my prosciutto tomato avocado toast was made from low quality ingredients (like processed avocado paste), was soggy, and lacked flavor. My partner felt the same way about the drinks, but her hashbrowns were greasy and she refused to even try my toast, which I only ate one piece of. They were out of strawberry danishes, so I ordered blueberry (this is hardly a "bakery" by the way); it reminded me of those snack cakes in cellophane that that you buy in a gas station.
The server forgot to bring the danish, but she was polite and otherwise did her job well. In a context where there were multiple four-person tables open for the remainder of time there, and numerous parties of two people were seated in them after we had been refused one; the same employee from before walked up to our table (unprompted) and randomly pointed to a table and blamed the hostess in a bizarre fashion, without referencing any context or offering an apology for his embarrassing capacity for discernment.
As people who can cook pretty well and are mostly motivated to eat in restaurants for the overall experience, we will not be returning and feel sort of robbed for having spent our money at Brandy's Restaurant...
Read moreThis was a very tough review to write, because of very different experiences between breakfast and lunch. First, the good. Breakfast is awesome! I usually just get a bagel and cream cheese to go, and the house cream cheese is amazing! Recently, I treated my mom to the trout and eggs for Mother's Day. It was tasty and filling. The staff is always friendly. Next, the bad. Just the other day I took a friend out for lunch here. I was very disappointed by the prices compared to the food you get. Everything tasted fine, but the cost of the kid's menu, especially, was outrageous! Both of my kids ordered the kid's grilled cheese, at $6, each. They each also ordered a drink (one lemonade, one iced tea). I ordered a water and my friend ordered an iced tea. I was unpleasantly surprised to discover that $6 got them each HALF of a grilled cheese sandwich, with no side. My friend and I split an order of french fries (sides are not included in the lunch items) and shared a bit with the kids, but they were still hungry after we ate. They got their drinks in small cups, and one daughter finished her lemonade. The waitress told her she couldn't have a free refill of lemonade, but she could have some water. I was again unpleasantly surprised when I got the bill to see that each of the kids drinks were charged the same as adult drinks ($3), even though they came in smaller cups. I usually pay more attention to prices and ask more questions, but I was treating a friend and was trying not to fret about the cost. All in all, it cost more than $40 (before tax and tip) for two adults and two kids to eat lunch, with one person ordering a water and two kids leaving hungry. Sadly, I will not be returning with the kids or returning for lunch. I will still go for...
