Izzy's - Florence — Restaurant in Florence

I lived in Florence and NKY for 28 years and I remember going to the Izzy's that was on the north side of 18 near the 75 off ramp and when that closed in the early 90's I was crushed because the sandwichs and soups were amazing! I left the area in 2016 and was in town today for work and decided to try this new "fast food" version of Izzy's and it was a real disappointment. First, a "whole" sandwich was $14!! What the heck? Second, that sandwich was absolutely not "piled high" with meat (I'd guess about 3-4 ounces) and the potato pancake was cold and chewy. The final straw was the rather pleasant lady at the drive thru took my credit card with her black service gloves still on, processed my payment, then gave my now grease covered credit card back to me. The worst was she then proceeded to make my sandwich with those same grimey gloves on. She likely wears those gloves to protect her hands and never changes them out because they looked well used. Absolutely disgusting. Does she also handle cash with those on? Went with a friend to their new location in Florence. We both ordered the Reuben salad. If you've never had it, oh boy, are you missing out! It is different, but so delicious. It is 9.99 & worth every penny. Our waitress was Abby. She was superb! They were extremely busy, but she handled everyone with a smile & politeness. I would have been stressed out, but she remaind calm & took good care of the customers. The manager was helping both the front & back with a smile & pleasantries. I complained because the croutons are not the same as they use to be. He explained why they can't do it anymore & agreed they were so much better. That said the salad is 1 of a kind & delicious. My friend couldn't resist ordering a potato cake after seeing another customer's. We shared it & it was very good as well. The management & staff are doing an excellent job. I would highly recommend going to this Izzy & don't think you won't get taken care of promptly if it is extremely busy because they can handle it while the food is absolutely delicious! Update - Monday 3/4/2024 - Visit #2 : Our waiter was a nice young man named Justin. Within 5 minutes of his waiting on us, it was apparent he was very different. My brother and I took our elderly mother there to eat. My brother is a tough cookie to please, and when I remarked on Justin's quiet positive and attentive energy, he said he thought the same thing. We take our mother out to eat often. Service is usually fine and the servers are nice. But Justin seemed like a refined waiter from a fancy restaurant (Izzys is great and fancy but one of those dress up restaurants, ya know?) He just seemed like a genuine good egg all the way around. Even our mother remarked on what a nice young man he was at least a dozen times. You're fortunate to have an employee like Justin tend to your customers.
