I grabbed some sandwiches from D'Aleo yesterday for a late lunch/early dinner after reading the reviews when searching for an Italian deli. I got 4 subs, 2 Turkey, 1 Boss, and 1 Almost Italian. Upon entering there was a lady standing in the door way taking an order for a customer seated outside. I stood there for a moment before she moved and opened the door so I could pass. Why she wouldn't immediately move was weird because who stands in the door way to take a customer order. Anywho, when I got in the older lady at the register looked and continued taking the one customer in line order/payment. So I grabbed a menu, as it was my first time there. When that person left the older cashier did not say one word to me after visibly making eye contact. So I thought, rude much as a customer a simple hello would be nice. I didn't say anything. Then a young lady walked in after me and oh boy did she show she has hospitality! She warmly greeted and welcomed her, asked how she was and if she needed a menu. I stood there flabbergasted wondering the natural first response... is this a race thing because how do you go above and beyond and greet one without the other. So, I had 4 subs to get so I just let the young lady order first. When I approached this lady answered the phone- after all that time. I stood there for several minutes while others walked past me, and no one said anything. I typically leave but then the brown haired guy making subs asked if I'd been helped and seemed genuine so I said no- but decided to order. He took my order and said the lady would ring me up in a moment. So I'm standing there hearing her on the phone and it's even worse because it's something personal. She could've said one moment or something. Literally for 5 or more minutes, she ended the call with "well you'll have to call me back I am working or this is my work number I'll call you back." Honestly I don't patronize places that don't greet or show the same experience to all customers and I dont think I will ever go back and spend my hard earned money there. I'm sure they don't care by the way my visit went but the business I spend it with will be happy. On top of all that she could've mentioned the small fee for using debit. 🙄 When I got to my destination none of my subs had mayo as requested. There were like 2 hot peppers on the sub so I didn't think they put them on there initially. All in all the subs were just ok- nothing special but usually the people and experience make up for that. The gentleman who took my order and handed it to me was the real mvp though. He was professional and friendly, but the rest doesn't warrant a return from me. I'll save money and get more...
Read moreWe realize there are many good review about this deli. That's why we tried it, but be very leery of this tiny deli that you don't get ripped off. The prices for the sandwiches were reasonable, and the sandwiches were pretty good. We are from NJ, and we have gone to many great Italian Deli's up North. This deli thinks it can charge outrageous prices for okay food. We had ordered 2 sandwiches, 2 chips, 1 potato salad, 1 macaroni salad, 1 package of stuffed shells, a tiramisu, and a side of sauce. There were no prices on the stuff shells, tiramisu or sauce. The older woman rang up the items so quickly. The order came to $95. (We have had better meals at The Boathouse in Disney Springs in Orlando for that price). It's a tiny, outdated deli, not a fancy restaurant. We saw the price of the sauce was $9.99 as she rang it up. We have no idea how much the stuffed shells and tiramisu were, but eliminating the prices for the sandwiches, salads, chips and sauce, she charged us $50 for the stuffed shells and tiramisu. We visited this deli after visiting a relative in the Flagler hospice. We wanted a quick and easy dinner. The stuffed shells were nothing special, and we ended up throwing out the odd tasting tiramisu. We had many delicious tiramisu's up in NJ and NY, and this one was not good. It had a strange taste. There was no date on anything, so we don't know if it had gone bad. If anything just stick with the sandwiches, but we...
Read moreWe live in WGV and have been hearing about D’Aleo for a while now. We finally decided to make the trek over there for lunch after hanging out in St Aug for the morning. For those of you from the North who complain about the lack of good sandwiches in North Florida….this is your place.
It is located off of route one…a couple miles south of downtown St Aug. It is in a non-descript shopping center and had a couple of tables outside in the shade so we grabbed one of them. The inside definitely felt like a mom and pop shop from the northeast. It had little organization with some can goods and jars of food sitting on tables that were normally meant for patrons. However, this is part of their charm. They also had an assortment of home made Italian delicacies including deserts, pastas and sauces. I had the hitman and my wife had the house special. You order at the counter but they brought the food out to us. I was surprised at how fast they came out…like jimmyjohn’s fast!
My attached picture does not do the food justice. We both marveled at our sandwiches and agreed they are the best in North Florida. They had healthy portions of meat and were served on super fresh bread. We will definitely be back soon to try some of their hot sandwiches or entrees. Can’t recommend this...
