Stopped here on our way back to Jax from St. Augustine Airport and the B-17 bomber exhibit.
Our waitress was very friendly and patient, especially with my 8 year old child who was ordering for himself and was trying to get her to create a burgerless burger. 🙄 No, he is not vegan, just picky. He was very cold so didn’t eat much but she kept him stocked on ice-less ice tea.
We ordered an app of the chips with nacho toppings. The chips were good (even the second day too). Kids really liked them.
My older son ordered the pot roast with green beans and chips. He really liked it. The meat was tender and the beans were awesome. He was the only one that did not take his food home because he ate it all. It could have fed two. Or been two meals.
I got the BLT with fries. It was wonderful as well. I could only eat half my meal and took it home for next day. Warmed up the fries and they were still amazing and ate the BLT cold, and it was just as good.
Overall very satisfied with the meal and service.
Only downside is we sat next to a large group of men that were having a conversation and some comments objectifying women were made. My 13 year old heard and rolled eyes but thankfully the 8 year old did not. I already had to explain why there was a buxom woman painted on the side of the bomber we just had seen so was very grateful to not have to explain that just yet. Not the...
Read moreThe pretzel appetizer was terrible and dry/stale. The beer cheese was so salty we couldn’t eat it. My fish’n chips had rubbery bits in it and the fries were raw potato inside. Also the fish was fishy and everyone knows fresh fish isn’t gross fishy tasting. It’s now the day after and my stomach is upside down from this garbage. My girlfriend got the french dip sandwich and it was worse than school cafeteria food from the 90’s. The beef was like soggy leather and the dip was cheap Campbell beef broth with salt enough to kill a horse. The decor was dated and the restaurants floor was carpeted in a disgusting stained Berber that needed to go. The sound technician did annoying loud mic checks for the hour we were there and had shreaking feedback a lot. This was not what we expected from all the reviews we read. How is this pathetic example of an Irish pub allowed to be in business? If you want a better alternative, I suggest Culhane’s Irish pub in Jacksonville, Florida. Culhane’s by far isn’t even the best example , but light years better than Donavans. If you want the best Irish pub experience but do not wish to travel to Ireland, I would suggest Raglan Road in Disney which is family friendly and also McNamara’s in Nashville ,Tennessee for the best example. Good luck to all who eat at Donovan’s. It’s a terrible...
Read moreWe are new to this area so we've been exploring everything and various restaurants. We decided to meet friends at Donovan's and we could not be more happy that we did. The first time we went we were seated in Cheyenne's section and she was very friendly and helpful in navigating the menu for the first time. She was attentive and just a real sweetheart. I got the Corned beef and Cabbage and it was the best I'd ever eaten outside of my home. It already comes sort of deconstructed meaning that the meat was already shredded and the cabbage, which I believe was also sauteed, was already chopped up and ready for immediate consumption LoL. My wife got the fish and chips and it was delicious as well. She substituted sweet potato fries for the regular and it was absolutely delicious. Our friends got the fish and Reuben and they seemed very satisfied as well. The atmosphere was as you'd expect for an Irish pub and all of the patrons were comfy and having a great time. There's a great bar for tipping and few with friends and plenty of seating for a nice dinner with family. We will definitely be going back to Donovan's and I think that if you go that you will really enjoy it.
Take Care and Happy...
