Hearing rave reviews on this place was the prompting to try this sooner rather than later. For a Tuesday night at 6, both inside and outside seating was at capacity, great vibe, good looking bar. A couple of pointers before we mention the food, one, they do not have a full service bar, wine and beer as mainstay’s and “mixed cocktails “ are of the premade, store bought variety (not a fan). Also, no flat water bottle options, bubbly Pelegríno only, wish they would offer Pana, as their filtered water did not cut it. Secondly, reservations via Open table require a cc deposit, unnerving bc it’s noted that no-shows are charged $20 pp. This is somewhat understandable, however I would hope accommodations would be made in the case of a last minute emergency. Onto the food: We ordered the following, Hagalil Hummus, which was a combination of lamb, beef eggplant, raisins & roasted almonds…and trust me, it was as delicious as it sounds, 5 stars! It also came with their “Jerusalem bagel”, which was warm, soft and luscious and the perfect accompaniment to the humus. We also had the Vegan stuffed grape leaves(very good) and Whipped Dvash Feta, which was accompanied by their za’tar pita chips, incredibly app!. For entrees the 4 of us ordered; The TLV burger, which was outstanding, the Chicken Jerusalem mix(excellent) also the Vegan version (w tofu instead of chicken) and lastly the Dvash Schnitzel, which while also excellent, the presentation of the particular dish was somewhat appearing like two large chicken breasts, smothered with a fresh tomato salsa. It seemed in need of a prettier plating. This place is a remarkable find for anyone seeking authentic Israeli Mediterranean cuisine. I will definitely be returning. One more watch out, the portions are ginormous and therefore we left no room for what sounded like incredible desert options. Can’t...
Read moreI’ve been dying to go to this restaurant, but am really disappointed. Let’s talk about the pro’s first. We walked in without a reservation and we were immediately sat on a Sat. night.@ 6 pm. Our waiter was a sweet kid, attentive and apologetic, even though we weren’t complaining.
The con’s the menu selection did not impress me. There were a bunch of overpriced hummus combinations. And some entrees that did not seem particularly interesting. My first choice was the gnocchi dish, but they were already out of it by 6 pm. My husband asked for the branzino and asked that it not have salt, because of a salt free diet. They didn’t season the fish with salt but put salty sauce over it and salty quinoa as a side. I ordered a burger medium and it was raw half way through. The potato side was greasy and soggy, as if they were premade and sitting in oil for an extended period. The service was very slow since they had a full house. I ordered a take out burger for my son and asked the waiter to please make sure the potatoes were not oily and soggy like mine. This is something the chef could have fixed but they did not. I also asked for a change of topping for his burger and it did not seem like an easy task. On the menu it does let you know that they don’t do substitution. So would I go again? Sorry to say No! I much rather go to a Greek restaurant like Chris Taverna and get a bigger and better selection of Mediterranean food, hummus for 1/2 the price , huge portions and...
Read moreWe were 3 family members upon other family recommendations that ate at Falafel Bistro multiple times. We started with a plate of Babaganoosh with warm pita bread. My husband ate Shakshuka with lamb and I had a ribeye sandwich. Our child had chicken fingers. See attached photos.
The appetizer and entrées were outstanding. Freshly prepared, very flavorful, very delicious. At the table were 3 house made sauces (tahini, mango curry and a Mediterranean very hot chili sauce).
Take note you must be patient with your orders as the dishes are prepared fresh. Allow a good 90 minutes, perhaps more for 2-4 servings for a couple. The restaurant has a wonderful international craft beer selection f.ex. a stout from England, French lagers, Ireland and US ales and lagers. Just note not 20 or more to choose from.
The restaurant is small but that Sunday evening were 5 servers plus the owners tending to guests. My husband was very impressed all the servers were extremely, yes extremely tentative to guests needs with water, lemonade, iced tea refills, clearing empty plates. BTW, the tea was without ice cubes and served at the table from a carafe with a mint leaf in each glass. Without doubt the best tea he has ever had in a restaurant.
We were told Thursdays are ladies night with special offers and lunch has homemade soups of tomato-ginger, mushroom, beef and barley our family told us are delicious. We are already planning to visit again even though its 50...
