#1 there is no where to park if you are the fifth person to arrive. # 2. The store smells so bad it took me five minutes after exiting the place and immersing my nose into my tee shirt before the odor of bad , rotting fish left my nose. #3. The owner/worker was rude. He yelled (with attitude) who has a red truck? I said it is my husband. He said (with attitude once again) has to move. He's blocking my driveway! I answered and so is everyone else! The shop is situated katy-cornerne d and there are eight? Spots to park. I am handicapped and he was attempting to drop me as close to the door as possible. When he attempted to pull back out I SD when the guy went a bit wonky . If he had walked out to see my husband was in a pickle because nobody had room to come or go due to his lack of proper parking for anyone. On my way out I was pinching my nose due to the stink and the woman in front of me said" yes! Yes! " She did not buy anything either. #4. The woman in front of me asked the same dude when the fish came in and he told her everything came in Thurs or Friday. Today is Monday. No wonder it was so...
Read moreThe Seafood Shoppe is a locally owned shop. They offer a good selection for such a small shop. Their prices fluctuate from average to the high side compared to other fresh markets in St Augustine. I have purchased shrimp, mackerel, sea bass, trigger fish, and oysters from them more than three times.
I found all of them to be a fair price for fresh catches on some great tasting fish. I do not recommend purchasing oysters from them. Three strikes on the oysters for me. On 3 separate occasions they tasted bad and extremely small. They were not spoiled, just very bad flavor. I recommend staying away from their shell fish.
For an average $1 per pound they do a nice job cleaning and filleting your fish. Customer service has always been nice. Store is wheelchair accessible and easy to get in and out of the parking lot, except during peak...
Read moreI live two miles away, so I have tried this local place several times, hoping that they would improve before writing a review. However they only have gotten worse. Not only they price the fish like they get it from Alaska, but when I weighed the portions on my own certified electronic scale, I found out that they were short like 4 ounces short, always. They are way overpriced for the average quality of LOCAL fish that they offer, and they fish it themselves, go figure. As somebody else said on these reviews, try the local Publix, yes Publix is expensive, but they come way more reasonable than this Seafood Shoppe, whatever, ...stay away. In my opinion they will not be in business...
