Being an avid food blogger comes with it's own perils. You sometimes second guess online reviews. So was the case with Flavor of India. The reviews on Yelp were raving and hence chose this place for dinner with a colleague of long friendship.
We got in and were received with a warm welcome by Sumesh Sharma, who led us to our booth . On looking at the menu, it was resplendent with veggie and meat choices.
My friend and I both agreed to try the Gobi Manchurian as it was our favorite. We asked Sumesh to make it Spicy, dry and Crispy. To go with this , we added Ragada. Both of them were done in quick time and tasted just right. We loved the Manchurian as it was just perfectly crunchy, succulent and spicy !!
Now that we were all primed up, we wanted to try out more ... So we did. We took Peshawari Naans, and as Sumesh recommended BULLET naan, which is Garlic Naan laced with Hot green chilli paste ! For entrees we chose Dal Tadka and Paneer grated curry called "Paneer Kurchan", which was a lovely take on the traditional chunks of paneer. Here you get paneer in every bite !!
Before I forget, the bullet Naan was an awesome combination to the Dal tadka, while the Peshawari naan which has dry fruits stuffed inside made a great complement for the spicy paneer curry!
All in all it was a culinary fest for the tastebuds @ Flavors of India ! This place definitely lives up to its name !!
Kudos to the owners who have kept it's Authenticity alive, with great chefs, amazing staff like Sumesh making it a fun...
Read moreMy mother and I go to this restaurant at least two times a week, if not more. We absolutely love every single thing about this restaurant! We even decided to go out and try the other Indian restaurants in the area, but none of them compare to Flavors of India. The service is amazing at this restaurant. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, and they offer suggestions and help answer questions. The food is flavorful and very authentic. The atmosphere is quiet and very comfortable. Like I said, we went to other Indian restaurants in the Sarasota and Manatee County areas, and none of them came close to Flavors of India. We have never been there for the lunch buffet, so I cannot speak about that, but I can tell you that each and every time we have been for dinner, it has been absolutely amazing. I highly recommend trying their spicy house pickle. They are the only restaurant in town that makes it fresh. I typically have either the butter chicken or the chicken tikka masala, and my mother has the bhindi masala. All of those dishes are absolutely amazing, but you should most definitely try their coconut rice. It is out of this world amazing! Plus, their naan is to die for especially the peshawari and the garlic paneer. I have never had a single bad meal at this restaurant, and if I could give it more stars, I would. I highly recommend...
Read moreI recently visited from out of town. I was very impressed.
My experience of the food in quality and flavor was equal to many James Beard Award winning & nominated restaurants I’ve eaten at.
I had the Ragada, Gobi Manchurian, and Goat Chettinadu.
The Regada was, quite honestly, one of the most flavorful, nuanced and expressive dishes I’ve ever tasted. It is a differentiated dish with layers of flavor expressing their unique identity and maintaining their integrity while complementing and collaborating with one another—seriously good. The layers of flavor, umami, and texture of the potatoes and chickpeas topped off with the creamy, slightly acidic, citrusy, and herbal notes of the yogurt, mint and tamarind chutney were an exceptional, creative and skilled presentation of culinary magic.
The Gobi Manchurian reminded me of Classic Cantonese dishes I’ve eaten, but was also distinct in flavor, texture and harmony from any cauliflower dish I’ve ever eaten. Very, very good.
The Goat Chettinadu was also very good. I haven’t eaten goat since my time in Kenya. This was subtlety rich in flavor and the goat was flavorful, sinewous, and nostalgic. The black pepper corn sauce were reminiscent of a hybrid of steak au poivre and Ethiopian wat.
The environment was quiet, peaceful, and aesthetically pleasing. The service was top notch.
Thanks for an...
