Phenomenal Ramen and Sushi, great Happy Hour, and friendly staff!
I have been a long time customer of Ramen Lab, and I was very eager to try Ganzo. We finally went the day after their grand opening and were greeted by a very friendly staff and an incredible ambiance. No, seriously, the restaurant is big and gorgeous. The bar is well designed and there is plenty of seating both inside and out. The location is great, right next to the Frank Theaters in Delray Marketplace.
Ganzo, which is owned by the same company as Ramen Lab, has a hugely expanded menu with a ton of Sushi, Ramen, and Rice Bowls.
We arrived during Happy Hour (3-6pm I believe). The drinks and appetizers were discounted, slightly. The bill reflected some of the discounts but not others, which can be easily corrected. The Mojitos are delicious and presented beautifully. The martinis were passable, but a bit dirty (too much vermouth when asking for extra dry).
For appetizers, we tried the Chicken Gyoza, pan fried, and the JB Roll. Both were excellent, with the Gyoza being pan fried, hot, and a symphony of great flavor. The JB roll was delicious and met my expectations and then some.
For the main course, we had Ramen and a Rice Bowl. The Shoyu Ramen is incredible, just like Ramen Lab, only slightly better! The meat choice included grilled chicken, which was amazing on the Ramen, and the egg is seriously the best I've ever had in any ramen, ever. The Katsu Rice Bowl was good, but lacked veggies. It came with just Japanese Rice, egg, sauteed onion, chicken, and scallions. It would be nice to add some mixed veggies or even fried rice style veggies to the mix to enhance it. Otherwise, good overall rice bowl.
Dessert was a lava cake, which was hot, delicious, and presented beautifully. I'm not a huge chocolate fan, but this was really enjoyable after ramen.
In total, the bill for 2 people with 2 appetizers, 2 meals, dessert, and 4 drinks came to just under $95. I would say the price is average to upper average, but acceptable.
The reason for my rating is that the Ramen, Gyoza, and Mojitos are really the best I've ever had. Ramen Lab comes very close with almost the identical ramen, but the grilled chicken, personalized service, and better atmosphere gives Ganzo the edge.
I highly recommend this place to all Ramen and Sushi fanatics, as well as Happy Hour enthusiasts! If you like Sushi, Ramen, Rice Bowls, and Happy Hour, Ganzo definitely...
Read moreI don't usually do any food review as I think it is mostly wasting my time. But this time I have to say something. Overall the service is nice, the waiter is a very nice guy. BUT, the food is terrible! Terrible! I was with my dog, below are the food I ordered Miso soup- SALTY! Very SALTY! the seaweed was not well prepared, it is still little dry, and hard to chew! Teriyaki Chicken and Rice: It is hard to tell how they cooked the chicken breast, doesn't look like fresh cooked, definitely not grilled, Teriyaki sauce was aside, just a plain brown salty and sweet sauce. And the rice, for an Asian restaurant, I never be able to imagine the rice can be cooked so poorly. Definitely put too much water , doesn't look and smell like fresh cooked. Might re-heated from left over. Chow Fun with Beef : it is always my favor dish at any other Asian restaurant , but very disappointed at Ganzo, it is definitely not sauteed but rather just mixed with brown sauce with no other flavor but salt ! Every thing is just dark brown, beef is not fresh cooked, just warm, looks like boiled, noodles are all stick together, middle layers of the noodle are still white color and COLD! Rainbow sushi: Since all these dishes are terrible, but I am still really hungry, since I have no food at home, I ordered rainbow sushi to go. I think it is the only dish not too salty, eatable, but the rice they use is not sushi rice, very soft, no taste, and fishes are not good either. It is very disappointed meal, I don't know how they are going to survive if they don't serious consider improve their food. Will never recommend any friends to go there even though it is so close to where I live. I truly wish they can serve good food, since it is so convenient for me. Unfortunately it is the most...
Read moreUpdate - Went for Dinner during happy hour with my wife. Service was a completely different experience from before. Apps came before drinks or water? This crab roll with mush is just terrible, I don’t know why I tried it again.
An impressive showcase of japanese cuisine, not only doing traditional staples but also high end options for advanced sushi diners.
Visiting for lunch, my son and I decided to explore more of Delray Marketplace and try GanZo. It’s masterfully decorated inside, and the food matches its quality.
I enjoyed an ice cold Sapporo Light, and we started off with the Lobster Shrimp Gyoza pan fried (5pcs.) - excellent crisp, def made in-house and with tender care.
My son opted to go with the classic, California Roll, just substitute for salmon. Meanwhile I tried the Tsunami Roll which lured me in because of the blue crab topping. His was perfect, mine visually didn’t match up - as I thought it would be more of lump crab meat vs the pureed mush version. Although it was good, I’m more inclined to try the omakase and main dishes next time - Korean braised short ribs, I got my eye on you!!
Not pictured is we shared a chicken fried rice. Nice large portion, big cubes of grilled chicken on top with a fresh combo of edamame, onions, scallions, egg and carrots. I will def be getting this again.
Lastly, we managed to save enough room for dessert and ordered the Japanese Cheesecake. Light, surly and airy - it’s topped with fresh strawberry purée and few blackberries and whipped cream. Very good cold rendition.
This seems like a great date night spot, they have a good variety of bento box lunch specials too. This place needs at least 2-3 visits to...
