This has been a place that I would've called my home a few years back. Delray Marketplace was a hot spot for teenagers and young adults, and the Movie Theater has always been the place that has stood out. I now have to say that the Marketplace deserves better, it doesnt deserve what its getting from the new ownership of the Theater. I've been here since it was Frank Theaters, then sold and became apart of Paragon, and now sold again and currently owned by Evo. The utter lack of maintenance in the building is staggering, it feels lifeless.
I went to see Dispicable Me 4 a couple of days ago was that the IMAX theater with its recliner seating was a good experience and all, however it's very clear this theater has changed its projectors. Paragon was using lazer projectors prior and that was a nice experience, but the projectors that EVO has are completely cheapened out. Seriously?! The entire screen of the projector was extremely grainy and overly glossy! Honestly, even my TV at home would've had a better picture quality. For a "luxury" experience this was incredibly underwhelming. You're better off going to an Ipic or Movies of Delray.
In the bathrooms, barely any of the soap pumps are filled and 1 out of 12 of the sinks work. When I walked out, I saw a lot of supply boxes and a single walkie talkie sitting on the floor but no one in sight managing the walkie. I likely caught them at a bad moment but still, it doesn't paint a good look. The theater, the bowling alley or the arcade doesn't anymore deals or discounts, there's no happy hour specials at the bar, there's barely anything really to pull you in. The bowling alley was expensive enough but now they expect you to pay full price for amenity, this place has absolutely zero respect for the previous culture.
As a staple of my childhood I had to check out the arcade....and I have to say all good things must come to an end, but I never imagined like this. There's some sort of virtual sport like a cheap version of virtual golf where you just toss woofle balls with your hands at a 2 by 8 projector that takes over the bulk of the space. When you actually walk into the arcade, most of the ticketing machines are out or open, even Basketball which is a staple for young males is "out of order". But let's talk about the prizes. There's always been some satisfying about the prize you can get at the highest totem of the arcade when you have enough tickets....except the highest prize they were offering was connect four. A game you can buy anywhere, even play on mobile for free.
I had a hard time finding skee-ball but it turns out they moved that and the virtual sensation sensor machine to the other side just right past the bowling desk. It's certainly easy to miss it or know it exists.
Honestly, I'm quite saddened by the state of affairs of the building. This used to be such a fun place to bring friends, dates, family, and now it just lacks any warmth and feels like a business office instead of a entertainment location. This place needs a lot of love to get back on its feet. I understand the ownership change to Evo was fairly recent, but Evo needs to get their management together if they want to keep running this place. Otherwise it may be best to hand over to a buyer who can show this place the care...
Read moreI gave the manager a few days to reach out and resolve the situation, as I was told I would receive a call back as soon as possible. However, since I have not received any communication, here is my review.
Customer Service Review – October 20, 2024
On Sunday, October 20th, 2024, my family and I visited this location to enjoy bowling and the arcade games. While the bowling and arcade experience itself was excellent, we encountered significant issues with the customer service after ordering food.
Initially, everyone we interacted with was helpful. However, problems began when we ordered food through the QR code at the bowling lane, including shrimp tacos. I want to emphasize that neither the paper menu at the bar nor the online menu listed cheese as part of the original taco ingredients. While adding cheese was offered for an extra dollar, I specifically avoided this option due to my dairy allergy. Unfortunately, the tacos arrived with cheese.
Since my mother and I were sharing the tacos, she tried one before I could complain, which I acknowledge may not have been ideal. However, when we raised the issue with the bartender, his response was dismissive. He neither listened to our concerns nor made any effort to assist. Instead, he explained that new management was in place, suggesting that a discrepancy between their internal and public menus caused the error. While I understand such operational challenges can be frustrating for employees, there are appropriate ways to address customer issues, especially in situations involving allergies.
The bartender repeatedly insisted he could not help unless we placed a new order. As I tried to explain that the mistake was not ours, my mother decided to place another order to avoid further conflict. The bartender instructed us to confirm at the bar that the tacos would not contain cheese.
After placing the order, I went to the bar to explain the situation to the female bartender and asked her to ensure the tacos were prepared without cheese. At this point, the original bartender approached my mother, claiming I had again requested cheese, and she redirected him to speak with me. When he confronted me at the bar, he did so in a loud, accusatory tone, seemingly intent on proving me wrong.
I asked him to show me the receipt. The kitchen ticket only listed “shrimp tacos, add avocado, add mayo.” I asked him to point out where cheese was mentioned. He then referred to the paper menu, but it confirmed the ingredients did not include cheese. Despite being clearly proven wrong, he refused to apologize and continued making excuses, even advising me to “watch what I order” because of my allergy. I explained again that I had followed the menu’s information carefully.
The interaction was embarrassing for the bartender, as his incorrect assumption was exposed in front of other customers at the bar. Unfortunately, his poor handling of the situation left my family and me disappointed, ultimately leading us to decide not to return.
That evening, I attempted to contact the managers to address the situation, but the person who answered the phone told me both were...
Read moreI hate to do this because I don’t think I have ever actually left a bad review, but this place has gone so downhill. Where do I begin? Tried to book the Lux box dine in seats as I remember enjoying my experience in the past with it, there must have been a glitch with the website because it was showing available, but then when I went to check out, it was saying the seats were already booked. When I called and asked, they told me those seats were all sold out, however when I actually got to the movie, they were all unoccupied . No big deal, we got our food from the bar to go and brought it into the theater. The one good thing I have to say is about the bartenders , they were all on point and very helpful. I also noticed the snack area and the bathrooms were both filthy. There was no soap in the bathroom to wash hands. However, the worst thing I encountered at this movie theater last night was the lack of AC and the sarcastic manager that lacked any empathy. The second you walked from the main hallway into theater three You felt the air become still and hot. I was hoping it would cool down so I gave it a few minutes and everyone around me was also complaining that it was hot. It did not cool down. Not to mention, I am pregnant so I was extremely uncomfortable. I went down to the lobby to ask if they were aware that something was wrong And this manager, whose name I did not get, was almost annoyed that I was bringing to her attention that we were all roasting in there . She proceeded to tell me that the AC had broken that afternoon. Now I don’t know how An establishment like this operates, but I simply asked her why she would play a At 7:30 PM, knowing that it broke in the afternoon? Had she shown some empathy and taken some responsibility I wouldn’t have been so upset with this interaction. She did offer a refund however it’s very rare that my family and I get to spend time together so I was willing to tough it out through the movie, but Nobody, pregnant or not, should be expected to sit in a movie theater where literally everybody is sweating. Several people were complaining, so I think it’s safe to say the whole theater was uncomfortable and had an unpleasant experience. They obviously don’t value their customers if they’re willing to shove them in a theater that has no ac in the Florida summer and just not expect anyone to complain. I will never return to this establishment, especially when the prices are...
