Update Nov 2022 They went back to there old ways of making the salgados de pollo..ty so far they are GREAT AGAIN....yum yum
I'm giving them a 3 for the inconsistency on there Salgados de Pollo lately. They actually totaly changed only about a coulple of months ago.I've been eating these treats since they 1st opened on 37ave and sw 16 street, I believe in the late 80's or early 90's. I was born and raised in the coral gate area near there and I would go religiously every Saturday morning. I go now every Friday and order them online to pick up. I found Gilbert's over 20 years ago through my Cuban staff (mama's) while in old downtown Miami.
We lost Abuela much too early recently, and i always loved taking her to Gilbert's to see her smile simply from the pure and authentic visuals and smells.
We came again this past week on her passing day to actually smile and celebrate her memory...through your continued love and focus on cultural/traditional foods.

I live in the area and the times I have been there, the wait has been long and the quality of their desserts are horrible - I think Winn Dixie and Publix bakeries do a better job. My husband brought me these little sandwiches from there this morning, and told me they were mini medianoches and Elena Ruth. When I saw them I laughed because it was actually a little sweet bread with some ham slices, a little slice of cheese and a pickle, and the Elena ruth same type of bread with turkey instead of ham and the worst jelly ever - and for that they charged $2!!!I don't know how people eat their desserts. They really need to change their bakers and actually they need an overhaul! However, people buy because it is the only bakery...
