I really wanted to like grandpas schnitzel but we had a very bad dining experience and I lived in germany for a long time. Server was nice but I have to honestly review food, ambience and experience.that’s what this review is about and maybe they can improve from this. We came here a few weeks ago on a friday night.it wasn’t busy at all.Ambience not welcoming.Felt a little bit like a fast food place or diner next to the street with red plastic tablecloths.many tables close together and a small bar. My in-laws,wifey and me were here on a friday night and it took a long time for the food to come out. When it finally arrived my wife and me had schnitzel and both were really dry and tasted like breaded hours before. Both of us didn’t like it and had better and fresher schnitzel elsewhere in town. Sides weren’t tasty either.also real dry and without special flavor.my wife said sauerkraut and red cabbage tasted like the canned cabbage you can find in the store.I can’t tell because shes the only one eating it sometimes.I prefer it fresh. Probably best to go there for drinks only rather than food at this time since we liked the beer. The dishes lacked flavor and were not properly seasoned, making them taste bland and unappetizing.
To make matters worse, the prices were too high for the quality of food, ambience and location.that includes the credit card fee they charged us.
Overall, I cannot recommend this german eatery. There are many other restaurants in the area that offer better food, service, and ambiance for a similar or even lower price point. If you're looking for a memorable dining experience, I would suggest looking elsewhere. Maybe we’ll try again in a few months though. Update: Or maybe not if I see unnecessary comments of grandpas guests about an honest opinion and personal experience. Very sad and definitely not an environment I...
Read moreMy son and I have been waiting for Grandpa's Schnitzel to open for a few months. We went on night 3, a Friday around 5:30pm. We were able to sit wherever we wanted and our waiter Brandon greeted us. He presented us with some options and made sure to tell us that our food would take 30-40 minutes to be served as it was all done fresh. I had a German beer and we both had water. They served excellent home made bread and my beer was yummy. We ordered bottle water as they had issues with the tap water but at $1 it was a non-issue.
I ordered the special ($1 off I think), Schnitzel Italian which was schnitzel with a meat bolognese sauce and my two sides where spaetzel and potato pancake. My son had Hunter schnitzel with the same sides. We both chose veal which was a $4 add on.
The place was bright (and they know they need some shades because of the sun) and it had some interesting scenes from Germany and WWII. The owner's grandfather was cooking shortly after the war ended and some American soldiers wandered in and he cooked for them. Soon thereafter, a General had him cook for his soldiers.
The veal was done perfectly (unlike some of the other reviews where it was "burned") and was delicious. The Spaetzel was great and very buttery and the potato pancake was good as well. The bolognese was meaty and fresh, one of the best I have had in Sarasota. My son's Hunter sauce was also very good.
We had a dessert that was very light, a pastry outside and a very airy cream in the middle (I don't remember the name) which we shared and enjoyed. Not too sweet and not too heavy.
They are still working out the kinks and I hope that they are successful, and believe they will be if they can re-create the kind of meals we...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Grandpa's Schnitzel, and I must say, it was an absolute delight! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality that made me feel right at home.
The food? Oh là là, where do I begin? The schnitzels were cooked to perfection - crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and bursting with flavor. Each bite was a symphony of taste that left me craving for more. And let's not forget the generous portions! I left feeling completely satisfied and already planning my next visit.
But it's not just about the food. The ambiance of the restaurant is charming and inviting, with cozy decor that adds to the overall dining experience. The staff were attentive and friendly, ensuring that every aspect of my meal was nothing short of exceptional.
If you're looking for authentic German cuisine that will tantalize your taste buds and leave you wanting more, look no further than Grandpa's Schnitzel. It's a culinary gem that deserves every bit of its five-star rating. Can't recommend it enough!
