Professionalism is not a at Grumpy's on 210. I would not recommend this location to work or dine at due to its lack of maturity, safety, and management. My first day working, the young man training me walked out and never came back. The following day, the owner, Justin Milliken, fired 4 employees in one shift. One of those instances was in front of customers where he berated the server then stuck his tongue out at her. In other cases, the owner, has made his staff feel very uncomfortable. Whether it's commenting on their appearance, making inappropriate gestures, or speaking to employees like animals. An example is when he told a girl who came in that her bull ring would scare customers off and that she looked emo. He told an experienced male waiter of 10+ years we were not hiring but later that day when a beautiful young lady came in, the owner looked at her up and down then hired her on the spot. All the hostesses were told they got the position partly for looks. The hostess manger Ellie Belassen also degrades her coworkers. When making a simple mistake or confusion instead of handling the situation appropriately Ellie makes a scene in front of all the customers. She does not have good communication nor coordination skills. Every error she made was blamed on another hostess, including the time she forgot to seat a table, wrote them down, then told the hostess that it was not her "handwriting". When originally applying i was told I would be one of the host managers which was promised to 3 other hosts. Ultimately there was only one position which was already given away. The employees are told of new tasks they are expected to do everyday. This place is toxic and they choose to purposely make certain employees feel degraded. Certain servers have vandettas against other employees. One instance was when the server Jess came up to the host stand and said "Watch Your Mouth" to one of the hostesses. Table 21 (right next to the host stand) overheard and was in shock. This was because the host reminded Jess of a table she had not greeted for over 20+ minutes. The owner, Justin, then pulled the hostess aside to tell her that she was being combative by telling Jess that it's not appropriate to leave guests unattended for that long. In addition to unprofessional, the owner offered underage workers alcohol on the clock and allowed them to drive his Mercedes'. Ellie would tell the hosts rumors and comments about the Owner, Justin and his family. I would stay as far away from this location and choose any other one. Keke's, Canopy Road, Metro diner. The screenshot provided gives context to a server they fired which was publicly mentioned in the...
Read moreWhat an absolute horribly run Grumpy's!! My family has been to all of the Grumpy's and this one in St. John’s is by a long shot the worst one!! We usually enjoy our service and the servers but these are some of the most miserable servers I’ve ever encountered. Our first visit we had Jessica and it looked like she was on the complete verge of tears and extremely upset and inaudible when trying to talk with her. Then we had a heavier set server Kayla who had a miserable scowl on her face the entire time we were there and was not professional at all and looked like she just rolled out of bed. She didn’t refill our drinks for the longest of times, got our order wrong that we repeated twice to her and it took us nearly 20 minutes to get our sourdough toast that we asked her and a girl named Raja to get and they both were extremely disrespectful to us when asking. Not to mention, when we tried to talk to the owner Justin about it, he used profanity, pretty much spitting on us while using the worst, disrespectful tone we have ever witnessed before, all in front of his customers. Then proceeded to yell at the young host who was clearly very embarrassed and upset. We have also been completely ignored and barely tended to by our server Haley who showed up at the table with white powder on her upper lip and pupils completely dilated. We’ve also tried going in on the weekends in which our server Abigail put so much pressure on us to buy OJ and doesn’t appear to be too happy with her job as we over heard her gossiping with other servers right beside us, using profanity and putting down the customers previously sitting beside us. And the food is nothing like the other Grumpy's. The potatoes have way too much seasoning and black pepper, we’ve found shell in our crab cakes and beard hair in our eggs. I mean it’s very apparent that this place is falling apart at the seams. It’s horribly run with a tyrant boss just ordering everyone around in the worst possible way, showing no respect to the employees at all. I don’t know how anyone would want to work under this man. I don’t ever write reviews but this place needs a wake up call or they’re going to lose their customers,...
Read moreI sat down at the counter bar area where you have full view of the kitchens, it was about 7:20 a.m unfortunately, the general manager just decided because she did not hear a response from one of the guys cooking in the kitchen, even though he did make a visual head nod that he had heard her but she turned to quick to see it. Because she did not see him she chose to verbally yell and I’m not talking just had an attitude. I’m talking people could hear her yell at him to give her a response. As a manager, it is your absolute responsibility to maintain professional when you have a restaurant full of customers and it makes me so sad that I spent my very early and stressful morning watching a situation that was equally as stressful right in front of me when all I wanted to do was eat my breakfast and drink my coffee that woman Went off on him a second time screaming this point for him to get out, he had said nothing insulting and nothing untrue. This is just a note for her specifically this general manager if you have to scream, you are the boss you obviously are not meant to be the boss. Next time you should definitely approach him in a completely different way, a calmer way, and your rage at this point is completely unhinged. You’re employees are terrified of you and they do not respect you. It makes you look like such a small person. I am sure you are better than that.
I am not the type of person to even leave a review if I have a bad experience, but I watched her openly treat somebody absolutely terrible. Grumpy’s if you want your employees to stay with you, you have to focus on your management and make sure that they are mentally capable of handling the stress that it takes to generally manage a busy restaurant.
My food was absolutely phenomenal and so was my waitress Faith. She told me the young man’s name who was being yelled at, but unfortunately, I do not remember. I hope that he is blessed and does not have to deal with someone like that for much longer. Your staff is suffering because of her. I can see it. The rest of your staff remained professional through the entire ordeal....
