I couldn’t be more proud of Alyssa and Joe and what they’ve built with Island Vibes Kava Bar. I had the pleasure of inheriting and employing (lol) Alyssa in the past, and she was always available, dependable, and incredibly helpful. She showed up—every single time—and brought a level of flexibility and commitment that’s rare to find. Joe was always right there to help as well. I can’t thank them enough or stress enough the positive impression they made on me while working towards building their own bar.

Watching them take full ownership of their responsibilities back then made it no surprise to see them go on to build something of their own. It’s inspiring. Alyssa and Joe are not only hardworking—they’re also two of the kindest, most down-to-earth people you’ll ever meet. When things got tough, they were never afraid to roll up their sleeves and jump in. That says everything about their character.

Lemme paint you a picture. I’m from Melbourne, but my dentist is down here in Vero. It’s about an hour drive. The crowd in this town is generally older, not necessarily aware of the Kava scene. Which makes this place a peaceful oasis to kill time.

The vibe here is so chill. And the filmmaker-turned-coowner, Joe, is a great guy that really cares about his business. I haven’t gotten to meet Alyssa yet. The place is decorated with all kinds of classic movie references, from the bust of Jaws over the bar, to the life-sized Martian that greets you at the door. There’s even a poster for a film that Joe directed himself! Ask him about it!

10/10, absolutely recommend if you need a peaceful place to kill a few hours. It feels like a safe place when you’re from out-of-town. Try the Red Kratom tea! I still can’t feel my face.
