Izumi Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar — Restaurant in Florida

Went here for our daughter’s birthday. We had a good time with family. This was our first time here.They will not start serving you until everyone is there and seated. The food is ok. The sushi is not great, it’s about what you get from a grocery store. Very dry. The hibachi chef was entertaining to watch, but if you have been to a hibachi grill before, you know what to expect. For a first timer it’s entertaining. He cooked the shrimp perfectly, however, he cut the scallops in half and overcooked them my husband said. You of course sit with other people to fill up the entire space. Which is very cramped. (No bubble space). Let alone a way to get in and out unless you go straight in and straight back. The service was was alright, but not wow, especially since it was our daughter’s birthday. But you could apparently “ purchase “ their cake. No thanks, not exactly their specialty. PLENTY of rice for everyone. My daughter enjoyed herself is what counts. We are accustomed to better food. This place is actually very expensive. Compared to a lot of other places. You usually pay the waitress however, ours was busy. With the other side of the hibachi so we paid at the register. CHECK YOUR RECEIPT , we had a group of 7. GRATUITY WAS ALREADY INCLUDED. Most restaurants start adding their own gratuity at 8. But they are all different. We will probably not return on our own, unless a family member chooses to come back for an occasion. So all my life I have went to Shogun in Venice... Our son's wife has never been to a Japanese restaurant so they live in Bradenton and she picks here. Appetizers were absolutely out of this world we ordered 6, then we also all ordered the Hibachi Grill triple combo our kids split one my husband and myself ordered 2, so that was 3 filets, scallops, & lobster. My lobster was so overcooked that it was rubber they did take mine off our bill, the problem I had was if I'm paying $40 for a meal I expect all my meal! There was also a family of 6 who joined our table 4 kids and the parents lovely family small kids they all ordered kids meals and we received as much food as the kids did as far as rice and veggies go, now with our protein he cooked and split it between the 4 of us. We each received 6 pcs of filet 6 pcs of lobster way overcooked and 3 scallops now for $40 I expect my meal not to share it with my guests who only paid $25 a plate! I was totally turned off because our chef also did nothing special no personality no fire those poor kids that joined and our daughter in law had to hear and watch other tables enjoy their chefs. I will never go back here our bill was close to $250. So if your looking to enjoy a nice Hibachi Grill this is not the place try somewhere else. Where they give you what you pay for! Very...

I have mixed thoughts about the place. We went at 6pm, so it wasn't busy at this point, only a couple tables. We ordered cocktails, and have to say, have never had such a slow delivery of drinks throughout the meal. 1st drinks came 15 minutes later. We ordered our next round when we began eating our entrees...the drinks came when we were completely finished. That's a pretty unacceptable lag time. Our sushi, on the other hand, was ordered and served in between ordering our drinks and receiving them. The Samurai Roll and Golden Dragon were fantastic.

The table filled up and our hibachi chef came over. I've eaten at all levels of hibachi restaurants and have noticed that the mediocre ones seem to teach their chefs to sound like Japanese porn stars. "Oooh, you like it long time...I do you good". This was one of them. My scallops and shrimp were fine, but the performance was rushed and very little interaction between the chef and diners as to personal preferences.

It's also very loud. This seems to be the spot everyone goes to for birthdays. We had 5 gojng on. Each time, a disco ball lights up and a really loud dance music birthday song is blared. Fun for the birthday person, but not fun for anyone else after the 2cnd time.

Overall- good food, incredibly slow drink service, very loud, impersonal,...
