Beautiful wood floor in very good condition, with friendly staff. They don't give a hard time to advanced skaters who demonstrate the ability to maintain control and awareness.
The music is mostly jam skate freestyle music, without much diversity.
I wish my wheels were not caked with dirt after a 2 hr session. Not sure if that came from the floor or carpet.
Updated after about 12 visits in about 5 weeks of elapsed time.... I unfortunately have to reduce the stars from 5 to 3 because of systemic inability to keep the floor reasonably safe.
I was ultimately injured, and while I certainly accept the risk of injury, I was very frustrated that foreign objects on the floor caused me to fall almost every time I visited -- and 3 times in my last visit.
I had words with the manager, and my words were not received well at all. Bottom line, is that this rink's manager feels they do all they can.
I have been visiting troller rinks for at least the past 40 years, and have been to the majority of rinks on the East coast, and over into Ohio and Indiana. I have seen the common accidents/injuries, and the majority of them are avoidable, and doing so should be the primary responsibility of the floor guards.
But during each visit, I consistently saw things that shouldn't happen, happen without any reaction by the floor guard(s):
Skaters skating with their head down as they text and such on their phone. Skaters playing tag. Young skaters skating in the wrong direction. Skaters with open drinks on the floor, and spilling onto the floor.
And of course the problem of foreign objects on the floor was a constant problem. I call it FOD , for foreign object danger. Everything from pieces of balloon, to pieces of plastic or hardware from skates or skate mates, to coins, and ultimately it was a hair comb that was the straw that broke this camel's back.
I have fallen probably a half dozen times over the course of 40 years, until this rink where I was taken down at least 5 times by FOD on the floor, and 3 times in the last night I visited.
The manager and I had words of disagreement on roles and responsibilities, and it just didn't seem this manager was able to take any criticism, voice of the customer, etc.
As a skater, I am always keeping an eye out for FOD, and when I see it I pick it up -- if for no other reason than for my own benefit of removing a hazard so I don't later fall on it. I was coming home with pockets full of FOD.
Yet I never saw floor guards looking closely at the floor, or picking anything up.
I also never saw a floor guard intervening, speaking to, correcting skaters that were doing things they shouldn't, etc.
One example which I laughed about at the time, was a little girl skating against the traffic, with skate mate, and a drink bottle was dropping liquid as she strolled -- with other skaters having to watch for this and avert running into the girl.
It took a long time before a floor guard noticed the water, and ultimately they handed me a rag and asked for help. I had no problem with this, because its a safety issue and I am an adult etc. But it just shows how little the floor guards understand about roles/responsibilities, etc.
When they saw things happen, they made announcements saying "please do not...." but they never really intervened in this situations.
I am left with the impression that this rink does exactly all they need to under the law, and no more. For example, current law says they need a floor guard for every 100 customers, but doesn't say what they are responsible for doing.
Common sense is that floor guards should be watching for objects/spills and skaters doing unsafe things, and explicitly intervening to say "You can't do that".
While I certainly "get" that is hard, I cannot be convinced that it isn't necessary and that it will reduce accident frequencies.
Perhaps my expectations are high, but the floor guards and ultimately the manager on duty are resigned to it...
Read moreWhy Can't People put a NO STAR Rating? This Astro Skate is a dump and the manager named Selina is a complete disgrace and a Dishonest hurtful person. We just went and had my wife get knocked down and hurt by a couple of teenage skaters where one was skating in Reverse and had been already instructed to not do that. She apologized and the other two girls seemed pretty concerned about my wife who layed out on the floor in pain until I could get to her and get her up off the floor and back to sit at a table. The Manager named Selina came to our table and said she was going to fill out an accident report. She asked my wife many personal and private questions and told her to sign the next to her own name. I said to Selena that we'd like a copy of it and she childishly grabbed the paper from me and said "Nope, Not happening. I said ok if you won't give us the paperwork you're filling out then I said let me take a picture of it then and she pushed me away. She had one on a clipboard and one other where she made mistakes on and that paper she grabbed and crushed it all up in her hands smiling and pulling away as she a then tried grabbing the clipboard. My wife still had the clipboard and she said, no I need a copy myself to where Selina said, nope, You're not getting any of it. Selina then reached over and was physically fighting with my wife and was twisting my wife's hand and arm which I'll add a picture of at the bottom of this comment. Everyone there last night stood and watched as did I in disbelief Selina tried dragging my wife who was holding onto the clipboard off of the table and onto the Ground and ripped it from my wife's hands and took off running to her office. My wife headed towards the office to talk to her or someone about what happened She again tried to tell Selina that she wanted a copy of the paper. This was repeatedly asked for because Selena wrote down all of our personal private information and signed her name as well and had told my wife to sign below it as it just stated that there was an incident that occurred. But ripping that paper from her hands as soon as it was signed and as we both asked for a copy was not right as the rest of the form and area for my wife to describe exactly what happened was completely EMPTY. So she never filled out any of that important area and As soon as my wife signed as requested by The Manager Selina, that woman wanted it before anything could be written on it. This entire situation and the actions Selina did to my wife was like nothing I'd ever seen in all of my years as she Physically struggled with my already injured and shocked wife. Selina could care less about my wife and her injuries both sustained by getting knocked down AND what she did in grabbing and twisting my wife's hand and wrist which caused more injuries to her. My wife came back in tears from everything that occurred and with her own injuries from being knocked down on the floor and Selina's physical altercation at our table. I went up to let any of them at the front desk that I wanted the copy but Selina went into the office and hid in there yelling out. "You're not getting it"! I told another employee that they didn't even get any time for my wife and son to even enjoy skating and asked for a refund due to it. Selina yelled from her office to that employee, "Tell Him NO! And she continued running her mouth behind the closed door. As I was walking away from the office I told an employee that what I needed to do was call the police as I got my family together and we left trying to determine if we should call the police, go to the Hospital or wait. We'd love to have called the police but with so many negative police issues in this country we figured that they're not going to do anything about it anyway so the best thing to do is to let the public know what happened and recommend them to stay away from that place. Are there any other people with any altercations or incidences...
Read moreOn March 16th I had the unpleasant experience of being disrespected and berated by the manager Dreya. I have been spending my money here for the past 3-4 years. We celebrated my daughters 6th birthday hear as well as my son’s 13th birthday. My children are now 9 and 17. I have come here for spring break for my daughter both this year and last year. As of now I will NEVER use this place again. The way I was treated I definitely feel as though it was racially motivated, had I been another race I would have received the respect I deserve in supporting this business. So I spoke to Dreya in person on Friday, I picked up an application for skate camp and asked if I should pre pay to ensure my daughter has a spot for camp for spring break. She tells me that won’t be an issue. Monday comes, I take my daughter in with the paperwork and paid for the week. The young guy helping was a little rude but I ignored it. I dropped her off and picked her up with no ID. I’ve literally never been asked to show my ID over these past years. So I go in to pick her up on Tuesday March 16th, I couldn’t find my daughter so I asked this young girl who worked there to call her over the speaker, she refused. So I’m saying to myself that’s weird but whatever I continue to look for my daughter, the same girl then comes back following me around asking for my ID. I look at her like are you serious you guys NEVER ask for my ID. She then goes to get Dreya and she is now following me around stating she doesn’t know me and she needs my ID, crazy because I have coordinated things with her in the past and as I stated recently as well. As I told the girl before y’all NEVER ask for ID so why now. She’s yelling at me saying she doesn’t know me and she has NEVER seen me before. She then stated I CAN NOT BRING MY DAUGHTER BACK!!!! Now I feel embarrassed and completely disrespected but I have no time to go back and forth with her as I had to get to work on time. Once I arrived at work I called and requested to have the 3 days my daughter didn’t use refunded, I was told flat out NO. This lady has no right to keep my money because she feels like it when she’s the one who told me she couldn’t come back. Looking for help I then contact Tarpon Springs and was told she doesn’t have to refund my money. So I asked for the owner to whom I was told his name is Chris. I asked for Chris’s last name she refused, I now know his name is Chris Maganias. I will also take this matter up with the Better Business Bureau and contact my attorney if I have to. You have no right to disrespect me, then you disrespect me publicly. Then to be told as if the humiliation wasn’t enough your also going to keep my...
