I have been going to Antico's since they opened a few years ago. Being a bit of a pizza snob with roots in New York I tried the wood fired pizza. I ordered a Marguerite pizza, a simple pie with cheese, basil and tomatoes. It was fabulous. A perfect balance of ingredients, not too much sauce, not too much cheese or toppings on a crust that can only be described as out of this world. It has the most wonderful texture, crispy with just the right amount of chewiness, light yet with the subtle flavor of extra virgin olive oil and a hint of smoke. On another occasion I went there with a friend of mine from Long Island NY. We had a pizza with sausage on it. Again it was fabulous. Unlike most places that use a pre cooked sausage crumble that looks like dog food they use home made sausage that is cooked in the links then sliced thin. This gives a wonderful sausage flavor without the crumbles falling all over the place. Needless to say, the pizza was excellent. A perfect balance of ingredients bursting with flavor, not so much that the pizza is a soggy; it literally explodes with flavor.. My friend from Long Island is still raving about the pizza. He said it's the best pizza he has ever had in Florida. On other trips I have had the home made pasta and a wonderful Greek Salad. It was wonderful. I love the authentic European flavors and wonderful combinations.
I talked with the owner one time about the ingredients he uses. He told me that they use special imported flour and olive oil for their crust. He said you cannot substitute cheaper ingredients and make better pizza. I can say that each time I eat there it is better than the last. Another great appetizer is their authentic Lavish bread. Similar to Naan it is liberally served with dinner along with a wonderful extra virgin olive oil to dip in. That could make a meal in itself.
If you are tired of regular pizza but really crave something special, run to Antico's. They open daily at 4PM and are closed Sunday and Monday. I'm going there today for a late lunch. Service is quick because the wood fired oven gets up to 600 degrees, pizza cooks quick. Make sure you get your own pizza because once you taste it, you'll...
Read moreMy family and I ate here last night (2/22/24) for the first time and we were quite pleased. They had a special going on for $15 large pizzas and $10 meatball sliders. We got both specials, as well as a kids pizza, a house salad, and lavash bread.
The food was all really good.
Our server, Racheal, was fantastic. She was super friendly, quick, held good conversation with us, and was able to promptly answer all of our questions as well as make appropriate suggestions when we asked.
The only reason I'm dropping 1 star is because of the 3% "Service Charge" on my check.
While it wasn't blatantly labeled as a credit card surcharge, that is what it was. That is always what it is. And frankly, it's federally illegal to surcharge a debit card under the Durbin Amendment of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
Additionally, if a business is going to surcharge a card (which again, illegal for debit cards, but not for credit cards) they are mandated to post clear signage upon entry of the establishment that a surcharge will be added to the bill if paying via card. I did not see such signage at KC's (although, to be fair, I may have missed it)
I understand that running a small business is tough, I also understand that merchant processors charge the business to swipe both debit and credit cards. Typically that swipe percentage is aroun 2.5% + $0.10 transaction fee.
My qualm is that is simply the cost of doing business in today's world. Restaurants in general seem to be the only business that regularly engages in this practice. I don't pay an extra 3% at the grocery store, convenience store, department store, or really any other store.
In my view, the cost that the business incurs for processing debit and credit cards should be baked into the prices of the goods they sell, not passed off to the customer as an additional fee. If the business is not making enough margins on their menu prices, then raise the menu prices.
I get nickel and dime'd enough on my other bills (Looking at you TECO)
Will we eat here again? Yes, absolutely. The food was good and the service was great. But my...
Read moreMy family has been eating at Antico Pizzeria since we first discovered the restaurant over a year ago. We enjoy the food, atmosphere, and staff as much now as we did back then--which is to say, immensely. We follow a vegan diet, and are always able to find a healthy and flavorful meal at Antico's. The most obvious choice for vegans/vegetarians is their signature wood fired pizza, which comes with a variety of fresh toppings and also a choice of vegan cheese for those who, like us, do not eat dairy. However, what I really love about Antico's is the fusion of classic Italian food with Turkish options on their menu. When we go, we often order a white bean salad, some falafel, and lavash or hummus and pita, in addition to our pizza. I also can't forget to mention the delicious green salads, which are always crisp and surprising--some even have fresh basil leaves tossed in the mix, which makes the whole meal a bit more sophisticated. The staff are kind and courteous, and the owner, Atilla, goes out of his way to ensure you leave feeling full and happy. In fact, we enjoy Antico's so much that we recently hosted my husband's birthday party there--we were a boisterous group of at least 12 people (including many children), and the service was excellent. Atilla went out of his way to make a vegan baklava for us, with enough even for the smallest children. The restaurant is a very kid friendly place, and the waitresses are always very sweet with our three year old daughter. With all of that said, it is one of our go to places and highly...
